Why the Uber Update was the worst in TF2 history
I can already hear the rage. Probably deserved since this accusation NEEDS a good explaination. How can an update that added over 20 weapons, created stranges, and more be the worst? Most people think this update was the best due to the sheer content alone. Well, looking in terms of overall effect on the game, this update does TF2 far more injustice than Invasion, EotL, Halloween 2016 or any of those other "Meh, it's light on content/kinda broken" Updates.

First off, the best thing this update did was introduce strange weps. That was the only good thing, but it is FAR outweighted by the bad. Dropping over 20 weapons is a good way to generate huge amounts of hype, but actually look at some of these weapons. Among them we have a range of weapons from OP as hell, to utterly forgettable, to totally useless, almost ALL of them are still being rebalanced half a decade later. This thought process of "New weapons = Good Update" Is terrible. You can add 100 weapons but if all they do is slightly tweak some stats and need to be rebalanced so often that you clearly didn't know what this weapon was intended to do to begin with, these were not good weapons.

Almost every weapon in this update is still being rebalanced to this day, showcasing that the devs at that time cared more about shoveling in mountains of content that would get a quick influx of attention and fairweather players. If said content was balanced or not, they didn't give a ♥♥♥♥. At least the devs right now, as little content they make, are concerned with it being balanced. How many future updates had to completely restructure weapons like the Quick Fix, Reserve Shooter, Enforcer and Big Earner? Half of the weapons released in this update you wouldn't recognize if all you had to go on were the stats from when it came out.

It's at this point you begin to think. Why would they do this? Why would they create an update that gives so much content leaving the game a crippled, unbalanced mess for the sake of getting new players... it's at this point you realize, this update made the game free to play.

Now, I have NO problem with the game being F2P, far from it. However, making it so after releasing 20+ unlocks, most of which are in need of huge changes, will only leave the massive influx of new players confused, annoyed, and lost as customers. Making the game F2P should have been saved way later on (When exactly I might make another thread on) TF2 was alive and well at this point, and though this caused a huge influx of players, most of them would just leave due to the unbalanced state that adding 20 new weapons does to a game. Think about it this way, you're about to invite a bunch of people into your neighborhood, you want it to look as good of a place to live as possible. Do you do this when it's calm and working properly, or when there's a bunch of fixes that need to be made and it's current state is awful?

TLDR. The combination of 20+ Unbalanced new unlocks and F2P status do not mix well in the slightest. This made the Uber Update far worse than MYM, where all the problems were quickly fixed, Invasion, which was light on content and nothing else, or even a broken, forgettable mess like Halloween 2016. The F2P card was activated at the worst time, and the game was worse off for it.

You're complaining about something from 2011 https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/%C3%9Cber_Update

Welcome back from the rock you've been living under for nearly 6 years!

Seriously though, stop.

I thought people still whining about MYM after a full year was bad..
But whining about an update that came out 6 years ago?? That's a whole new level of terrible.

The purpose of this thread is to show why the MYM complainers are mostly very new to the game, I'm just giving criticism to an update that deserves far more than MYM and gets none.

It gets none because it's 6 years old.

Wrong, making the game F2P after releasing 20+ unbalanced weapons was a foolish idea, and the fact we still see these weapons rebalanced to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ day goes to show that their original purposes were poorly thought out at best.

It got none to begin with. I just want to remind people that getting new weapons, the only thing they seem to care about here, isn't as important as them being well designed and good.
