Demo on the other hand can make more use out of it because he has melee options that open up more value to it's potential. Getting 100 health plus overheal instantly as a Melee only class can turn you into a tank who can just keep rushing all over the place, cutting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ down left and right.
However: In a Soldier vs Demo Zatoichi battle, things get interesting. Demo has the mobility and charge, but one thing I noticed when I used the Zatoichi on Soldier for a while, is Soldier swings slightly faster then Demo does. So in a 1v1, if they both swing; Soldier would beat Demo. Add to the fact that the Half-Zatoichi's longer range also applies to the Soldier, and it makes a decent melee option as long as you're observent and target players also wielding it first and foremost. As your entire rampage will be crushed in one hit otherwise.
-have a Kritz medic up your a**
-use it with Backup
-use it with conch to be a samurai a**whooper
Get damage/kills with your rocket launcher, toot your conch, go on a speedy melee rampage
It even has a stereotypical japanese design, of course you're supposed to use it
