What is the best way to practice aiming pipes?
I main demo and I'm trying to improve my pipe aim, and I want to know the best way to practice. Before you say tr_walkway, I've already practiced on tr walkway and know about how far to lead shots, but what I struggle with is predicting my enemies' movement. I want to know what helps with that. Also, is MGE any good for practicing pipe aim?

Some tips are to compensate for arcs and the direction you're firing. Sometimes you needs to aim farther and higher than you think and pipes fire to the right of the crosshair, so compensate and aim a little to the left, too.

Remember, the iron bomber has a less steep arc, so you gotta compensate for that.

The bomber pills also bounce less and roll less.

Just play a lot. You'll get better over time

This doesn't help. I already know about the arcs and stuff. What I struggle with is predicting movement

Yeah MGE is good fir practicing practicing. And well you just got to remember WHEN to use the Grenade Launcher. You probably know this, but as Demo you have TWO primaries. The Sticky Bomb launcher is for long range and the Grenade Launcher for when they are close. Long story short, it sounds like if you are trying to hit long range pipes, which you generally shouldn't do. You should use them close range where their movement is more predictable and they have less time to react.

To sum up if you can hit the bots in close range whie in TR_Walkway you're good.

Sorry if this doesn't help much because I know you're asking how to practice and I know you're asking about how to practice, but there really isn't much I can say except play more games on TR-Walkway and more games as demo with the Charge N Targe.

pipes aren't something you can solidly rely on like rocket splash
you can go find vids of people using projectile aimbots and missing a good chunk of pipes outside of close range because enemies can simply walk out of the way

latency and the wonky way pipes come out of the right of the screen will ♥♥♥♥ you up often and messes with your muscle memory
pipes on walkway with zero ping are way different than online due to latency on projectiles, and you need to aim different amounts to the right/left depending on which direction the enemy is moving

best way to pipe is to understand what's currently influencing enemy movement, and use that to your advantage
teammates pressuring them from the left?
they're likely going to move to the right
is there a medkit nearby?
is that scout going to try jumping to the highground?
etc

using stickies to control and bait movement is solid way of setting up pipe shots
pills and sticks synergize together; don't treat them separately

Play a lot. Train with bots, mostly King Of The Hill (koth_) maps.

I know that stickies are more reliable than pipes, but I want to get good with pipes so I can easily deal with scouts and rocket jumping soldiers.

Just think how you would shoot a moving target in real life you need to aim in fron of them so they run into the pipes. If its a far target then aim high so the pipes land on target

I know. Old thread. I don’t care. A thread that allows comments is fine.

A map like Tr_aim is another good map.
Just queue for casual and spend some time.
That's literally it. There's no other way to "properly" learn it, other than actually training against real players on real servers.

Man, I’m sure he wanted this suggestion after 6 years.
When practicing pipes you don't only want to predict your opponents movement but you also want to lead them so if you feel confident with your pipes start using your stickies to lead them INTO the pipes then you have to do less rocket engineering to figure out whether they will run left, right, back or forth.
