Do some research. It did back in the old days of TF2.
The only evidence I would and could provide is TF2Wiki video weapon demonstrations.
But due to weapon changes these videos had to be updated a lot over time. And to be precise: there was a video demonstrating that ullapool caber could taunt kill. But that was obviously replaced by new versions. I only remember it was being functional without plug-ins, being official thing on its own until changed for unknown reasons, because VALVe never specified the reason on this particular case why was it removed. (Probably because you could give crits with Kritzkrieg for the taunt? But I doubt)
I can only assure you that oldschool players will recognize it having this function. On the part of evidence I cannot sadly provide but there are hordes of topics about this being mentioned.
The Demoman tosses his Ullapool Caber into the air, catches it, shows it to his opponent and uses it to whack the area in front of him. This taunt does not injure or kill opponents. He says one of the following:
"I'm goin' ta blast ya into thin gruel!"
"Oooohhh, I'm gonna liquefy ya!"
The taunt is what I hear to be a scrapped one for the bottle that was reused, but not certain. It was never able to taunt kill even though it looks as if it could, people have made mods for it to kill though.
EDIT: Rip English :l
And at what point can you be described as an "old schooler"? I know I "came late to the party" as TF2 states it, but the caber was added 2 years before I began playing. The taunt was added to the caber less than a year before I began playing.
The update log on the wiki also only states two kill icons. Taunt kills usually have their own icon, but the caber only has two, one for the first hit and one for kills with non-explosive hits.
EDIT: This is from the TF2Wiki after the taunt was added to the caber:
It's fine that you can't find proof of your claim, but I just find it hard to believe you when you apparently are the only guy on the internet to believe it ever had a taunt kill in vanilla.
It's not that I'm declining to showcase a proof or any specific evidence. I would provide one if there was an example. Besides trying to search up Ullapool Caber weapon demonstration video and look it up on WaybackMachine and results were too vague. Because I know the channel had to remove few videos from existence and re-upload new ones.
Once more, players who are familiar with this function will remember it. All I can say additionally is that the voicelines were intended for the Ullapool Caber taunt kill. Because he does swing it subtly after saying the lines.
I have to cut the quote because my answer is only : I know what you're trying to say
Just the opinion on my head that may actually help people since it helped me two or three times.
Well I'm not those player back then but I had a friend who told me once about it. So I searched it and I only found it was scrapped(Demoman Taunts TF2 Wiki, Trivia section). Pretty much around couple years ago. Reason I still remember this cause my friend didn't realize he was playing on a modded server. So no ones fault for approving/disapproving.
I'm also giving the place where I found to approve it a bit, so people know where to look at if they can't find one. Still though, I'm not trying to be a toxic peeps about my opinion, just giving it one that may help you one day.
