Team Fortress 2
Can someone explain why the Back Scatter is bad?
I love this weapon and I've been doing pretty well with it (around 5-10 kills most lives) and don't really understand why people think it's so bad. I think it's fun as hell and rewards good flanking and use of mobility. Please explain?

because it encourages scouts to shoot you in the back and nobody likes to be shot in the back

Scout is probably the best head-to-head combat class in the game. Taking away some of that firepower in exchange for a niche upside is why it's underused--not bad, just underused.

stock is where it's at fam

Because cl_interp_5 back scatter scouts are a thing

It's only bad because of random bullet spread screwing it over. With fixed spread you just have to get closer to the enemy's back than normal for free minicrits.

Because you have to flank to unleash its full potential

Meanwhile, most engagements as scout are going to be head-to-head

no mid range harrasment

any shot is 20% less likely to succeed (or at least deal as much success)

- 2 clip

benefit is ... what? one shotting braindead AFK snipers?

The less clip size and extra spread kills it for a lot of people, at least from what I’ve heard

Scout already does very well at shooting people in the back at close range, adding the ability to situationally instakill light classes just isn't quite worth having less accuracy and less clip.

Compared to the rest of the game, it's not that bad but compared to the rest of scout's primaries, why would you ever use this over stock?

I only use the Back Scatter because it's the only Professional Killstreak I have and ngl boi it's actually not bad and it's fun to use. Also the most cheapest Pro Ks weapon I can accept and buy...

you tend to two shot most classes anyways

now if this gave full crits...

Its not a bad weapon IMO but its rather ineficent, sitauational makeing it rather useless

The reason its considerd a bad weapon is cause its hard to get value out of Even if you do get right behind someones back your pretty much right infront of the enemy team and you have your back turned towords them

and from a range well outside of still haveing teh enemy team behind you (even if your on higher ground) its just that inital shot thats going to deal more damage than the scatter gun

its situation because it requires a map where scouts can get abouve them and a situation they can drop in and not be killed in the process

The scatter gun deals enough damage and is more consistent enough to just beat the back scatter DPS despite mini critting on an enemys back

if you can 1 shot a sodlier from the back with the back scatter (mini crit dose x2 dmg) Then your close enough with the back scatter to kill them in 2 shots and they can do nothing about it anyways

The only weapon this could quickly kill the scattergun cant do is kill a heavy in 2 shots (this assumes they dont turn around etc) you might finish a heavy fast enough with the back scatter But the value aint worth it

the scattergun is just genuinly more consistent and gives out the same value the back scatter can give in most situations, If not more

the weapon is Rather pointless than bad

Over a year later, and fixed spread woukd still do wonders for it. May as well do full crits too since you're looking at about 40 more damage anyways.

still crap so many years later

id rather have the baby face than use the back scatter.
