Strange lag in casual servers
Hi !

Since one week, I have a strange problem in every casual servers it seems ...
Sometimes, I see my ping rising for some reason during the game. Sometimes it is fast, so I have just a little lag for 1 microsecond (which is boring, in particular if I am about to backstab somebody ...), and sometimes I see every players stop moving (me too) and I have a connection problem (the red message).

It seems that I have a connection problem in servers, however, my connection seems perfect. I have no problem in my side ... So I don't know where that problem comes from ... Maybe there are some problems during these last days in casual servers ?... Can you guess where my problem comes from ?

It is very annoying, I restart playing TF2 for almost one year, and I never had this problem ... I have this problem since one week and I don't know why ...

Thanks a lot for your help !

Hello!
Steam Support's Painis here,
It seems your game started lagging, can you give us more info. Have you installed any mods or configs that could cause this issue?

Best regards, Spicy Painis

I modified strictelly nothing in my game. So I'm afraid I have not a lot of info for you ...
I just recently download the Bethesda launcher, and I saw this problem just after the setup of this launcher. So I thought the problem was this launcher, and I uninstalled it. All of it. However, it changed nothing ...
I also tried to reinstall TF2, and I have still the problem ...

Hi, from what I can gather, it seems like you have a connection issue.

Try typing net_graph 3 ( doesn’t have to be 3, but you get a nice graph) to monitor your FPS, ping, and “loss”. “Loss” is the % of packages lost in networking, and if it is large, your internet connection may be too slow. (I’m not too knowledgeable in networking so correct me if I’m wrong). If it turns out that your connection was bad, get a config. I will explain in detail later.

Next when you get lag, see where the server you connected to is located. The farther it is, generally, the worse the ping is. This can get to the point of un-playability and might be the cause of your lag. So if you are like me and get connected to servers located on the other side of the globe, it might be a good idea to just reque.

Valves networking code is supposively really bad, so the community made some configurations, or config for short. Configs are a good way to optimize your game and might help with your issue. Get and config at cfg.tf and on network you might want to choose “bad connection”.
Once you choose the graphical config of your choice and all that, download it, and copy everything exept what is in “custom” in C:/user/…/steam/steamapps/common/Team fortress 2/tf/ cfg and everything in custom under C:/…/tf/custom (sorry if I’m wrong about the directionary, I don’t use windows)

Sorry for any grammatical mistakes, I wrote this in 2 am. Gonna get some sleep. Hope this helps!
