Team Fortress 2
Random crits are bad for TF2. Change my mind.
And I'm not talking emotions here. I'm talking straight game balance.

Well they don't give anyone an advantage, so in terms of balance they're technically neutral.

More experienced players are more likely to get them than bad players so yes, they do give advantages even if they're unreliable ones.

If that's the case then random is a bit of a misnomer.

RNG in of itself is a misonomer at it's very core, but the algortihms that run it are the closest you get to random so we just define them as such.

As for random crits in general, the chances of getting them aren't 0% or 100% so in a sense they are still random.

Its only bad for you. cause your definition of fun is entirely different from others. and this is logic.

you play games to have fun, read again if you dont get it.

Until they really nail down quantum computing, that is.

Anyway, I knew certian weapons have a higher chance of critting but I didn't know a player's score influenced the chance as well.

Seems unfair. :sticky:

This is exactly what the OP wasn't asking about. They were asking about how crits effect game balance. (Although you could have just called them out on their burden of proof fallacy.)

Melee have a higher chance of critting than ranged weapons. Other then that weapons don't naturally have a higher chance of criting. I'm pretty sure it's more to do with depending on the weapon you're using. Naturally you're going to do more damage(which is what crit chance are effect by) with a rocket launcher than say a pistol. Which is probably why some weapons seem to have a higher crit chance than others.

Score doesn't count, it's the damage they dish out. That's why Power classes have a much easier time getting them, with Medic and Engy counting on assists and Sentry damage to accumulate theirs.

i want to have fun and random crits make the game less fun

your fun is not more important than mine or anyone else's, and besides, this is a thread about what they do for balance, and not whether or not it makes people feel good

There isn't a single argument for random crits which is actually objective

The only reason people would attack Uncle Dane for his video is because he actually has reasons and evidence which debunk everything

One could argue that, when it comes to games, subjectivity counts. Fun is, after all, in they eye of the beholder.

If Valve just removes the objectively bad mechanic we'll stop discussing it. :nonplussed_creep:
