The maps themselves are way too forgiving for defending players, they generally require you to spawncamp the enemy for a chance at taking the intel, and the maps are often too linear which forces easy chokepoints.
The gamemode is also at fault because it lacks a timer I still want to slap the idiot who thought it was a good idea to remove it, holding the intelligence hostage brings the game to a standstill, and the gamemode forces two objectives for both teams to follow, often splitting teams between offense and defense.
got disconnected
fun.
• No Team is "required" to push, which leads to camping, stalemates, and hour long games.
• CTF system is flawed, somewhat confusing, an not fun for some
• Can teach new and old players bad habits and incorrect strategies.
• AWFUL map designs
I personally enjoy CTF to an extent, to me it's not stressful and after a long day of work I just want to halfass on a sever that nobody should be taking 100% seriously. Normally I only have the time to play about 30 minutes, CTF is a perfect remedy after a stressful day. I can play mindlessly with people who are also just mindlessly playing, or just having a chill match, theres no stress to get the objective done or need for extreme focus to win the match due to the flawed system. I also enjoy warming up on CTF if I took a break from the game or need some extra practice. Also you see some pretty crazy ♥♥♥♥ on CTF, its entertaining.
The game mode is not really how the game should be played, it's a pretty awful game mode. People are still entitled to enjoy it, I enjoy it myself. It's okay to like bad things.
the excuse of "if you don't like it, don't play it" while not entirely unwelcome, when it comes to the actual quality of the game mode itself is a pretty terrible argument
It seems we are so quick to create our own dismay or suffering because we're sometimes guilty of perceiving the game in very linear terms, as a "team-based shooter meant to be played competitively or the way it's presented" as opposed to an interpretive work of art? It certainly seems the game, along with other Valve titles, was made with the sentiment to express certain ideas that go beyond our face-value perceptions of what a game is.
