Low fps on a High end pc
Have a Ryzen 9 3900x with a 2080Ti with 32GB of RAM but get around 100-120 fps in tf2. Changing graphical settings in tf2 has little to no effect. Any help is appreciated.

"100-120 fps" you have a better frame rate than me getting 45-60 plus Valve abandoned the Source engine of Tf2

100-120 is low fps?

*laughs in 30 fps*

But, make sure your resolution is native.

There's only one map I've experienced frame drops, tested both with/without a low preset config: Mercenary Park. Everything is fine until the battle starts, I'll go from my regular 240 fps all the way down to 90.

It's obvious the map isn't optimized at all, because I can still get a consistent 240 frames in and out of spam-infested 12v12 chokepoint battles on Dustbowl.

Some maps are better made than others. Did you ever play Precipice? Lord, that map crashed a third of the time I tried loading it.

It's a halloween map, so it's not in casual rn. You can load it up via create a server, or find a community one with it.

TF2's performance is quite bad, i noticed you're using a ryzen processor, so you need to make it so that this game uses more cores/threads from your CPU.
Put this on launch options: "-high -threads [number of CPU threads]" (high performance mode for cpu and uses more threads as well).
Try enabling multi-threaded optimisation on video settings.
Try this console command (-2 or 2) between the quotation marks: "mat_queue_mode -2", some people reported that this gave a huge framerate boost.

Alternatively you can use custom FPS configs which will trade graphics for performance.

wow 100 frames is low what do you call my 15 fps
lol (being sarcastic not rude)
You can get better FPS by buying an Intel CPU.

i know this is a month old but people who say 120 fps is not enough are all dumb people, no offense but truth

2080ti are designed to run at 4k native on any game, if you run 1080p on latest title you will get even more fps than running 2007 game
yes i know tf2 doesnt like new shinny pc parts but my point is still valid

haha yes let me buy a cpu brand where not even intel"s most powerful xeon can compete with consumer grade threadripper

Intel ♥♥♥♥♥ all over AMD for high FPS/refresh rate gaming. I guess if you have a poverty monitor AMD is okay.

i assume you are taking about single core performance since intel used to dominate amd"s crappy bulldozer with their single core performance
3900x is cheaper than 9900k by long shot but almost as good as 9900k in SCP
price to perfirmance ratio > overpaying for fastest possible product thats overpriced into oblivion
