I think I'd have picked the latter had I thought about it more back in the day

the hat only gets you a single style of the 2011 skull, and you can just buy one of those that has all 3 styles for like 2 keys
tradable headtakers are 3-4 keys
even if getting the axe wasn't twice as expensive as the hats if you were trying to get both, getting a single style of the skull for your craft is a waste
