Widowmaker is broken
So the Widowmaker, Arguably Engi’s best Primary. There are so many things wrong with it that I need to talk about it. The ammo return mechanic isn’t usefull, you already have a dispenser and ammo boxes, even if your dispenser is destroyed it drops scraps to pick up as metal. Even though it isn’t usefull, if you can aim it, its a direct upgrade, then you can have infinite ammo with no reload at no cost really. The metal return mechanic is usless but gives infinate ammo if you only use your Pistol at long ranges and the Widowmaker at close range. Needs a rework.

What if you don't have any ammo boxes around, nor a dispenser, and you can't aim for ♥♥♥♥?

Probably because they have to worry about how, when, and where to place their buildings.

It’s fine the way it is.

Most of not every fight is going to take place away from range where the engineer can easily get ammo packs.

Not to mention the damage you deal is returned as ammo, not just hitting him.

If anything it’s nice that Engineer has a weapon that actually requires aim

From my understanding, the Widowmaker is at its best when used alongside the Gunslinger's mini-sentry, which is oddly fitting with one weapon being a prosthetic arm and the other being a shotgun from the Deus Ex universe.

The widowmaker is not broken.
The widowmaker is a shotgun that is used for practise aim, fail = lose metal, hit = gain metal.

Even if you have perfect aim and infinite ammo with widowmaker, engie is still a meh combat class. He has average speed, below average health, and you need to be somewhat close to enemies to have a net gain of metal.

In comparison to stock, it's far riskier than stock. You could lose all of your metal missing, either getting yourself killed or wasting your time. You could fight with a full metal supply, but wouldn't that be better used on buildings?

At least it's better than having no primary

If you have 60 metal and land both shots you gain around 40 - 60 metal back per shot.

Yeah, but if you miss like one or two shots then you're done. It's a fine risk/reward weapon.

It's not a direct upgrade since you'll end up losing metal past mid range even with perfect aim.

Ammo boxes are in every corner, building a dispenser 1st is always the right way to go, and the Shotgun is meant for Mid To Close Range
irl a shotgun with a choke can reach up to 100 meter and up to 300 with slugs but ok

Well you can use the Pistol
Yeah, and? You can use the pistol with literally any other shotgun. It's not like the game is balanced around aimbotters, at best you get a bottomless clip shotgun.

We can nerf it by either adding a slow fire rate or a bigger spread
