A Good Community?
So I've seen a lot of people say that TF2 has a good community. They'll point to things like Youtubers, fan art, SFM, The Saxxy Awards, Charities, and such but whenever I get on to TF2 all I see is annoying, whiny, hateful, self righteous, jerks that either act like kids or are kids. I see less of the community being good and more of it dehumanizing others just because they can't look someone in the face and do it in real life. Now I'm not saying this as a person who hates TF2 or a person who wants to hate the community. I'm saying it as someone that has put in a lot of time and money into it, loving everything about the game, and feeling frusterated that the community actively trys to stop people from appreciating how wonderful TF2 is. You may say that I'm wrong because a lot of the pillars of the community do wonderful things but they are pillars for a reason. The rest of the community doesn't act like Soundsmith or Lazy Purple, they don't try to make TF2 a game that is easily enjoyed, and I'm not saying it's a horrible experience but when you have to take breaks from TF2 because the community gets under your skin that much then you know that there's something wrong and it frustrates me so much that barely anyone talks about it and instead they want to whine about this person using that weapon or that person playing a class they don't like. I know me making this post won't fix anything but I want to know why you think TF2 has a good community if you think it does. Show me what I'm not seeing because at this point I don't know if I want to keep playing it.

That's because TF2 community is very divided and different from one another.

Competitive community is generally good, supportive and welcoming and hosts quite a lot of charity events and LAN events without any official help.

I doubt toxic community could do that.

Casual community, on other hand, is very poor with people crying about balance when they've no idea how to play the actual game, have their own dumb "unwritten" rules, memes and stereotyping. Racism and sexism is more common there, too.

Every community has their own toxic side, however, most of the members in the Tf2 community are actually pretty nice.

I'm glad you're having better luck finding people that aren't terrible and I know every community has a bad side but the TF2 community doesn't want to talk about the bad side. They instead want to shame people for playing certain ways and for using certain weapons. They don't want to talk about how the community bullies content creators or how people abuse binds to annoy others so much that they turn off chat. Like seriously, not even the pillars talk about it that much. Arrayseven talk about binds and I know German Peter and I think like 2 other people talk about the bully problem but they don't try to make it a sin in the community as much as they make using the Sydney Sleeper a sin

So you're saying that the community is good when you only play with friends and never interact with the rest of the community? Also if all the people that are being toxic are having an off day then don't we need to open up a discussion about how people abuse others just because their life is ♥♥♥♥ and talk about how we can try to help those people to not feel like they have to do so? And I'm not serious 24/7. I have a cardboard skinned Black Box called imagination. I'm pretty sure I have a sense of humor it's just that my sense of humor doesn't include people telling others to ♥♥♥ and people bullying furries just because they are who they are.

The youtubers are unoriginal, cringy, boring, unfunny turds. Only some make good original content but most are dying. Pyro joe made a video on the "dont judge a book by its cover challenge" tf2 edition which was the cringiest thing I have ever seen and people in the comment section wondered what was going through his head.
That is some next level pessimist move you got there.

I'm not a big fan of TF2 content creators because I find that they change how people look at the game in a negative way just like how Soundsmith causes people to justify bullying others for using cosmetics and weapons that he talked about in a video but I can't say that all of them are awful. I honestly think that Lazy Purple and FUNKe do a wonderful job on their videos and Arrayseven has a great sense of humor but Array is robbing himself of creativity when he locks himself to only TF2. Honestly Lazy Purple and FUNKe are the only TF2 content creators worth checking out. The rest just keep recycling ideas and I don't know if I like Soundsmith. He seems like a cool guy but he also seems like he's chaotic neutral. Also Uncle Dane is really good. He puts in a lot of effort into his videos and is just a swell guy all around

What do you mean now? I've meet toxic people all the time on TF2 to the point that I turn off chat and don't use my mic most of the time. I typically play on maps that people just DM on because most people don't want to do teamwork when I play. I've considered doing comp but the comp takes way to long to load and I don't have that kind of time on my hands to wait. If I do I'll try it but honestly I just wish Valve would make it good enough for everyone to feel like there's a reason to play it.

There is if you have friends to be with and you get paired with friendly people..We cannot really escape the deluded and the and toxic because they will always find a way to get in (Unless its singleplayer :p) and valve comp isn't much populated compared to casual or community comp..And ive been toxic myself (and regret it badly) and you can be if your not having a good mood.
