Why are there no African servers? (a.k.a South African TF2 Gamer AMA)

As a South African living on Tesco internet who's forced to connect to either the toxic South American servers or the rare elusive Dubai server, I feel personally shocked Valve (and most other companies) haven't attempted any servers in Africa.

I mean, I know Africa doesn't have a large playerbase because there's not much development on the continent beyond glorious Boerland and maybe North Africa (I only have ever encountered a dozen fellow South Africans, a fair amount of Egyptians and Moroccan, even met one guy from Kenya), but for us SA gamers, Valve needs to really step up.

BTW, I'm not a♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I'm a whitey apartheid baby.

I think those are not in the basic needs bundle.

Actually, we've got a fair amount of gamers here in South Africa: white fellas like me, but they mostly use consoles. Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia have got players who hook up on Dubai servers. Besides, Battlefield 1 has SA servers, but my PC can't run BF1 :(

I've tried, but nobody beyond the 2 South African friends I know who actually used to play the game could join the servers.

You mean for Africa or for fixing TF2? Because we're wayyyy more developed than our other brethren.

you say it yourself "Africa doesn't have a large playerbase"
thats why, nobody is going to spend his money on server maintenance if the server is going to be empty most of the time.
if that bother you so you can spend your own money and open comuunity server yourself.

Like I said, I'm not all that wealthy. I'm lucky to have a PC that runs TF2, tbh.
Nearly nobody in South Africa cares about TF2 in modern times TBH. I guess the whole question was pointless now that I think about it. There's a few SA TF2 groups, but other than that, If I try for a community server for the whole of Africa, nobody's going to join because it's not a major server. I think Valve servers based in Nairobi or Johannesburg are more likely to get traction because gamers around the continent are more likely to trust Valve-run servers. I'm not gonna pick up the precious black gold of North Africa because I'm pretty sure those people will be more likely to hook up to Dubai servers because they should all be speaking Arabic there, and plus, they're closer.

Yeah, we're probably the most whitest country on the continent at. 8.9% :/ ♥♥♥♥♥♥ was cash until the apartheid stopped dead in its tracks in 1992. You can also find whites in Angola and Namibia and a small amount in Nigeria, plus the Arabs of North Africa are pretty close.

Don’t just sit there and complain, be the town’s hero and make your own 24/7 servers. There are guides that will help you perform this task in the guide section.

I finally see it. Servers are expensive to run, and putting one in one of the least technologically advanced continents on Earth seems like burning money.

Guess you can keep the criticism flowing, might see if I can boot a TF2 server up after my PC's repaired, but I might add a little side AMA because some of youse might be shocked someone from the continent is still playing TF2.

True, I can barely JUST run EU4 on my PC. I know guys in some of the more developed states who are rich af and have godlike PCs. Plus, like I said, I reckon North Africa's better than us.

Lemme rephrase how sorry our state is despite us being a regional power: North Africa (Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, etc.) is better than us. That says something.
