Yes, that is the whole point of taunts. Angry players usually make more mistakes compared to a relaxed player.

Fragile egos spam thanks and fragile egos get mad over it, not sure if to laugh or feel bad.

Three reasons-
it's a taunt that's safer than a taunt, due to the thumbs up in the kill cam;
they ironically thank you for giving them ammo;
or they are thanking someone else for saving their ass from your powerful skills at Team Defense Fort The Second.
