Team Fortress 2
I can't move after installing config
So the other day, I created a custom config over at cfg.tf souly for the purpose of increasing my FPS, installed it in my local files, and decided to run a playtest on Gravelpit in an empty server.

The good news is that the config actually improved my framerate (I could tell when I was selecting a class). The bad news is that when I spawned in the map, I couldn't move. I tried pressing my movement keys (WASD) but I could hardly budge.

I don't get it. I installed the config correctly, so what went wrong? And how do I fix it?

Check if WASD is set for movement.

Use host_thread_mode 0
(I don't remember if its 1 or 0, but change it)
If its 1, make it 0
If its 0 make it 1

Is this issue in the local server?(offline map that you open using console)

Check this too
Most probably, this is not the case dince cfg.tf has that bound as default unless you change it

Configs are only text files not mods. You probably don't have WASD bound.

Okay, so far everyone seems to be suggesting "Make sure WASD is bound". Now my next question is how should I do that? (WITHOUT using cheats or console commands)

why would you not use console
you just type in
bind w
and it'll spit out what w is currently bound to, then you can troubleshoot

or you can just go to keyboard settings and re-assign your movement keys, though they might reset when you relaunch due to your config re-execing

Go to your options (not advanced) then keyboard then just go through them

Well, how do I prevent that from happening? If it involves editing the config, which parts should I edit?

If you were experiencing this -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifZDtcDq-iQ you were most likely trying to test out your new CFG in an offline server. cfg.tf uses a specific command (host_thread_mode) which can break local servers but can gain fps in online play. You are absolutely fine.
I know this is kinda an old thread, but it is the first one that pops up when you search for this issue, so i just wanted to post on this to try and resolve it for anyone currently having this "issue".
But if you weren't in a local server and couldn't move, try checking your binds in-game ("bind w" in console, etc.) and if it isn't the right command (+forward for w) try reinstalling the cfg.

It's just masterconfig, I have the same problem, but only with masterconfig. And I did rebind and make sure of all that wasd stuff, it's just the config being ♥♥♥♥♥♥. But if it wasnt masterconfig idk what to say

Saving lives even after 5 years of this thread. Thank you
