TF2 lagging for no reason

I used to play alot of TF2 but eventually I've quit. Yet these days I had a feeling of nostalgia and started to play the game again. Except the fact its lagging like hell. I used to play with everything on high, and now with everything on low I cant even get to 40 FPS, and when I do it stutters like crazy and the audio comes out all weird and stuff. I even used a site to check if I've got the recommended specs for the game, and I do. Any tips I could do to make the game work like it used to?

Hey thanks. I can clearly see a huge difference now, but it still has some moments where it lags pretty bad (not as bad as before but I still cant aim) do you know how to fix that aswell?

just play on community servers with low latency so yee
it kinda lags sometimes but its good

Maybe try set multicore rendering on, it has given me a way more fps than before. Also set shadows and water at lowest settings and set motion-blur off.

I think you should do +fps_max 0, it completely uncaps the framerate and provides a better experience in the long run.

Welp, apparently the fix was only temporary. Yes, the game works perfectly in the first 5 minutes but then it returns to its old laggy state. I'm just so confused about all this.

Download and install that config.

I am playing with this config on intel core 2 duo and can maintain 60 fps. My pc is 11 years old.

Don't use them. Follow these instructions to reset all settings:

Then use these launch options instead:

-novid -nojoy -nosteamcontroller -nohltv -particles 1 -precachefontchars

I will add one thing: after you launch TF2 with -autoconfig don't forget to remove it afterwards. Or it will reset settings every time you launch the game.

Remove all of those and instead Install mastercomfig and use their parameters
