SSD vs HDD
I read a post a while ago about the history of tf2 updates and I read that a 7200 SATA was required for running the game better. I read that the game refers back and forth to a certain folder and disk speed was more important than some other specifications. Is this true? And will a SSD improve my performance moreso than upgrading a certain other part, because right now I'm running a SATA 7200.
Thanks

ssd is always superior than hdd
It doesn't change anything but your load times.

I've had TF2 installed on both my 5400 RPM HDD and SSD and the only difference is how long it takes to open it and then join a game. At one point I was having FPS issues and switched the game between drives and found that it made no difference.

cpu single core performance will make a bigger difference than storage types

Ssd has diminishing returns for work environment applications, but for gaming it's super applicable.

SSDs basically mean faster load times

So if you're playing a game that has lots of resources that need to be quickly pulled out and used a SSD could improve game perf

Which is not case with tf2.

It will "only" make loading faster, which is still nice to have considering there are a lot of loading screens, and it also works for other stuff outside of tf2 (OS booting up in like 10 seconds? Yes please).

But if you're having performance issues you might want to look into configs, launch options, console commands...or upgrade your machine if that doesn't help.
TF2 is an example of both wonderful optimization and horrible optimization

Pretty much speeds up load time
Although not a hard requirement a regular 7200 RPM HDD can get the job done if you don't have the money to afford a SSD with more that 500GB

maybe I'll get a hybrid, I'm just kinda upset that even with configs I still get below 60fps drops in really strange locations. Like mid fights on 12v12 often run fine but sometimes I'll be doing random things and I'll drop to 40

Have had it installed on both and it doesn't make a huge difference. Only thing it might help with would be launch times, but even then it's negligible.
