Is hat crafting with refined metal worth it?
Trading and crafting go way over my head even though I've read/watched tutorials on how to do both. I feel like just hat-crafting is way easier but when I go to watch videos about that, everyone who is doing it is practically crying with every subsequent craft.

I've only got 56 scrap-able items right now so if I did turn them all to metal I'd only be able to try for one hat. I'm just looking for advice on if that's a wise choice or if there are better ways to go about getting hats.

Your body, your choice.

It's easier to just buy the cosmetics you want through trading websites like scrap.tf or stn trading but if you wanna challenge yourself you can try to craft and see if you'll get something like a dead of night but don't get your hopes up too much.

If you have no idea what you'd like to buy and just want to leave it to chance then go for it. If you end up with items you really don't like then you can craft them together for something else. You also get your name on the item if that means anything to you. I wouldn't advise paying the extra refined to chose the class.

yeh definitely better ways to go about getting hats. Its cheaper and makes more sense to buy/trade for the specific hats you want. When you craft it is totally random and most likely will be a loss and/or a hat you dont like/want.
If you do craft it is cheaper to use two scrap hats (1-1.33 ref each) than it is to use 3 ref to make a hat.
Trading for cheaper (non unusual) hats is fairly quick and easy. backpack.tf is a good trading site to check out. Its basically a classified where people advertise buying and selling items. All you have to do is offer what they are asking, most trades are accepted automatically/instantly. Best part is you dont have to talk/negotiate with anyone.
Hope that helps a little. Good luck.
