Is the Heavy update happening?

Ok so I stopped playing at the end of 2017 few months after jungle update dropped and only recently got back into tf2 so im not really up to date.

Im not asking WHEN, im just asking if we will get the heavy update at all. Is it confirmed ?

kinda not really. the tf team kinda suggested we would get both pyro and a heavy update tho given how thing have been going i wouldn't hold my breath for it comming out before 2025

Eventually. We know that a heavy update will happen, but it could be next update, or 30 updates from now.

Probably on the way. It has been promised by the devs, after all, and it's become standard for major updates not tied to annual events to come more than a year after each other now. It's impossible to guarantee whether it's just taking longer to push out than the last few updates or just not happening.

EDIT: Okay, I'm having trouble actually finding the citation on the promise. Tried to find it on the wiki; the wiki says it was promised to come after JI, but the page linked to when that is mentioned only says one of them is going to get the update that would become JI. I strongly doubt the widespread belief in it being a promise is baseless, but I can't guarantee it isn't.

There is no evidence really, they may have said they would do both updates but if they did, Valve regrets it, because they never want to confirm or deny stuff. Until you see an announcement from the TF team saying we'll get it we don't know if it's ever coming. If they do that they will probably be near completion.

Valve dislikes confirming or denying things, projects and ideas get scrapped and the development team sizes change frequently as they move around projects it seems.

There's a mention of Heavy Update on page 13 of this document from Valve tour[cdn.potato.tf] allegedly conducted by potato.tf admins.

Q: Where is the heavy update? When is the next major TF2 update?

A: There is nobody on this planet that knows when or if the next major TF2 update will come.Even the TF Team doesn’t know when or if it will happen.

The next major content update may not be the “heavy update” but could be a generic content update. Valve never promised when the heavy update will come. That they mentioned it somewhere very convolutedly (on the MyM blog post) doesn’t mean it’s the next update to come. (Even then, it doesn’t say anywhere that a heavy update is promised and it’s promised to be the next update.)
