Why this community hates furries?

So, my penultimate thread in this forum, which regarded the safety of furries in this community, received overwhelmingly negative responses, while my ultimate thread, regarding furry servers, received, aside from two helpful responses, negative and offensive remarks about furries.

I feel, given that one of my closest friend is a furry, that I should address this issue. I plan to do this in the course of two threads, though maybe this one will provoke enough discussion that a second thread won't be necessary. First, why do people hate furries? Then, what, if anything, must be done?

HOMOPHOBIA

Homosexuals and bisexuals have been historically discriminated against throughout the world. While many battles have been fought in favor of their freedom, being almost legally eliminated in some places, this discrimination remains, psychologically and culturally, in every nation, and will persist until the end of past, and perhaps present, generations.

Moreover, the furry fandom is mostly gay or bisexual, with less 50% of them being heterosexual, as surveys indicates. It is also known for its openness, accepting anyone regardless of gender, race or religion.

I, therefore, suspect that part of the aversion towards furries comes also from homophobia.

ZOOPHILIA, BESTIALITY AND OTHER MISCONCEPTIONS

Furries' unusual passion for anthropomorphic animal characters may lead outsiders to the common misconception that the fandom embraces zoophilia and bestiality. In reality, most furries do not express positive feelings towards, nor practice, either of these.

Continuing on the subject of misconceptions, some people believe that furries are people who seek sexual gratification from wearing costumes. This is demonstrably false, as only a minority wear these, and, even in such cases, costuming is just a way of self-expression. Another misconception is that furries want to become non-human, which also is demonstrably false, since an even smaller minority feel that desire.

CULTURE AND MEDIA

Another motive which should be transparent is, like 'nerds' from the 90's and 80's, furry culture isn't accepted as part of mainstream culture, besides being misrepresented and caricatured by the mainstream media. Whether that will change is anyone's guess

CONCLUSION

In this post I have hypothesized that hatred towards furries derive from two factors: prejudice, and misconceptions. Prejudice can be seen in form of homophobia, which is a historical fact not yet eliminated; -- and, one could argue, due to the facilitation of hate speech provided by anonimity of the internet, but such hypothesis won't be argued for here -- and misconceptions originated from the media which has focused on the least representative, but most controversial, parts of the furry fandom (edit: + novelty; furrydom can be said to be a recent phenomenom). I hope that, by demonstrating that these misconceptions are indeed what they are, readers will abandon their hatred towards furries, as well as reconsider their views on the fandom by the suggestion that homophobia may be playing a role in it.

Well, thinking from a certain point of view, on a match people would see some cringe-ass name like "Foxy the uwuolfie ^.^" or "Dark The Hedgehog" and a profile picture with some antropomorphic animal with gradient shading, or no shading at all, in the exact same pose as the previous 137257 antropomorphic animal profile pictures. It usually doesn't scream "I'm gay", or "I'm bi", or "I want attention", which is left for the profiles, which I personally don't bother checking in-game, unless it's to leave it in my history to come back after the match for a cheating report, where they almost invariably have furry and ABCD+ groups on their list just for the sake of it. It's just not something that would be found by a quick glance, and I personally can't say I ever saw someone hinting towards discriminating an antropomorphic animal because they were believed to like sausage.
