Team Fortress 2
Engineer's Pip-Boy Should use the PDA Slot.
The Pip-Boy, the item for engineer that changes the look of your in-game PDA UI - Yep, that's the one.

But wouldn't it be nice to have it use the PDA slot? That 4th weapon slot on the engi that only the few rich enough to have a Strange Construction PDA ever use? I mean, really? Wouldn't it be nice to actually put something in there? And it would open up another cosmetic slot for engi (This is more of a personal problem - I want to use the Pip-Boy, but my Engi looks a bit silly when I have to lose a hat, beard, or shirt to wear it). Not to mention, having purely cosmetic PDA's is not a new thing- The Spy's Invisiwatch doubles, the 'Quackenbirdt' (♥♥♥♥ symbols) and the 'Timepiece' (♥♥♥♥ looking up on the Community Market to full name) both take up the Spy's PDA slot.

Also, no other weapon or cosmetic takes up that space on his arm - No clipping, period - And even if one was added, they could code it to act like the Bootlegger or Wee Booties for Demo - You can't wear shoes with 'em.

In conclusion;

Pro's:
-More use of Engi's barren PDA slot.
-More cosmetic-y slots, but not a game-breaking amount.
-Encourage more use of it.
-Would make the UI change make sense.
-Examples of this already exist on the other classes.

Con's:
-Can't think of any. Feel free to mention any you can think of below.

cons:
more hats to render, reduces framerate
(WOWIE WHO WOULD THINK MORE HATS WOULD BE A BAD THING!?!?!?!??!)

You stole the Pip-boy creator's idea.
At first, he thought it would be a good PDA and have a Fallout color scheme in the PDA menu.
And it would also have a thumbs up taunt.

Ahh yes, I too typically agree that TF2 shouldn't have things like a 4th generic hat slot because 'Yay Bad Optimisation', but this I feel is slightly different. This is only for a single niche weapon/cosmetic, that only a few people have, and is no worse than having to render a weapon skin or - notably- the Gunslinger.

Huh, really? Cool. I had no idea. At any rate, now's as good a time as any to attempt to bring this back into the spotlight.

It would be hard to glance at an Engineer and be able to tell when the Pip-boy was actually being used. So I'd say leaving it the way it is works better.

The pip boy PDA has been a top rated of all time item in the workshop ever since Steam workshop was created, which was years ago mind you, all the way back to 2012.

Ahh, yes, I didn't think of that.
