Team Fortress 2
Increased Damage on Wearer
Heyo, so I've noticed something:

Many items claim to increase damage on wearer... but some do so while drawn, others just need to be equiped. Interestly, this is a stat almost completely exclusive to melees, bar for the Battalion's Backup's buff and Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol.
And so, in the name of SCIENCE I ran through these weapons and checked which were passive effects and which only effected you while drawn:

For testing I use demo bots using pills (as they do a clean 100 damage with no falloff), and snipers (clean 50 damage, no falloff). Marked for Death was not checked as this is a seperate mechanic.

N.B. It's rather irrelevant, but I could find no way to test the Detonator's self-damage, so that one remains inconclusive.

Passive; Just needs to be on your loadout.
Active; has to be out to take any extra damage.

Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol - Active
Candy Cane - Passive.
Battalion's Backup - Passive (checked for consistancy)
Powerjack - Active.
Pain Train - Passive.
Eviction Notice - Active. Despite popular opinion this extra damage only occurs when it's out.
Souther Hospitality (used afterburn to test) - Passive
Bushwacka - Active

It's a straight 4-4 split. Both of these groups have identical text, but don't indicate this passiveness or activeness.

Nothing groundbreaking, but I wanted to test it myself, and thought I might share the results.

I just checked the wiki, and it's pretty clear which ones are only active, which means that you would also be able to tell which ones are passive assuming that the wording isn't incosistent or missing. However, I'm not sure why the BB is on the list.

Eviction Notice is pretty much known as a better version of the GRU, so the only people who aren't even aware that the extra damage taken only occurs while it's are those who have no interest in heavy.

I've seen heavy mains claiming it was passive, plus plenty of people claiming the Powerjack was passive, and plenty of people saying both ways on most of the others. Why I wanted to check myself and make sure.

Also the wiki seems to use "weilder", "wearer" and the class name (e.g. "the Scout" on the Candy Cane page) interchangably with no clear indication of what they mean by it.

Well, to be more precise, I merely went on the wiki to check the ingame description of the items, so I have no idea what the wiki itself actually says about the item, since the description is all you would really need in this case. All of the active ones explicitly state that the extra damage taken occurs when the weapon is active, so if you know that fact, then you would be able to determine that the ones that don't state it are passive.

After looking at the wiki's description of the Candy Cane and comparing it to the Eviction Notice, it seems to basically be the same as the weapon description; it explicitly states that the extra damage vulnerability occurs while the EN is active, and for the Candy Cane, it simply says that the scout takes extra explosive damage, which implies that it's passive. While I'm not sure about the wording for the other items, I'd assume it'd basically be the same.

All of the use: X% damage vulnerability on wearer

So I have no idea what you are talking about.

Did you fully read the description? It clearly has a part about the weapon being active for all of the weapons that have the damage vulnerability when the weapon is active.

It's true, note the white text (or lack of) above the stats:
