TF2 not installing DirectX Correctly. Help :(
I recently restarted my pc, just installed tf2 and finished updating windows and drivers. When I hit play, it asks me to install DirectX, I hit yes and it later says "Installing DirectX (Step 1 of 1)" but it never installs and just appears to stop running the game, ive also tried to manually go to the tf files and open as administrator the installer but nothing. Even tried to hit the X to the installation to see if it runs. The wierd thing is that windows 10 alreadyincludes DirectX 12 but still needs and installation from steam. Anyone got sugestions?

DirectX is a suite of multimedia technologies required by many Windows games. If your PC doesn't have the right version of DirectX installed (the product box should tell you which one you need), your game might not work properly.

Follow these steps to use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to check your DirectX version:

In the search box on the toolbar, enter dxdiag. Then select dxdiag Run command.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, select the System tab, then check the DirectX version under System Information.

Also tried that, but I just found the problem, it was the antivirus, I have no idea why it was interfearing but that happened

Hi,

I'm having a similar issue, I installed TF2 on my new Windows 10 computer, and I've got DirectX 12 installed. However, I'm getting the same error message. Any advice on what to do? I've already verified the cache and added the "-windowed" command in "Set Launch Options".

For me it was the antivirus (mainly Iobit Malware Fighter). If you have it you should instead try installing Avast wich doesnt give much problem at all

Hey, I'm having similar problems as well. My DirectX says that it is up to date, and I can't seem to find any malware protection on my computer besides the default windows defender security center. I also have Norton Antivirus if that helps at all.

I also have the same problem but while I try tou launch the game it's says "launching installation script(Microsoft Directx)" but nothing happens no matter what I do

You need to look at the Directx logs, under C:\windows\logs - DXerror etc.

On mine it shows that it is trying to apply Directx v9, and an error with trying to register a DLL. The DirectX install fails and so the program won't launch. It's affecting a few of my older games and is very annoying.
