Last year I went on the market and bought a bunch of stranges with exorcism on it. I was able to get a strange shotgun with exorcism for not even $1 more!
Go back to upping the price of keys and running the Mannconomy down the toilet.
Now lets go back to bringing keys to 50 ref
How would free effects punish people? It is (or was when it was availabe) a free drop, they don't have to earn it.
Again, you didn't have to "earn" the spells, they were free drops. Plus, you'd already have the item(s) you'd want to apply the spell to; so you saying that they'd have to "earn the items" to apply a spell to, rather than have Valve "spoon feed" the items to you, is rediculous.
If by "worked up to earn" means "save up money to buy them on the Market" to you, then you're a lost cause. Because anyone willing to overprice a free item that can be recieved FREELY in the game is outright stupid. It's trash traders like you who are the reason keys are no longer 2.33ref, it's people like you who are the reason Valve probably removed spells from the game in the first place; so people wouldn't turn them into cash-grabs, ruining it for people who actually wanted to use them for fun.
Also, you wouldn't know the magic of using spells because you've only been on Steam for less than a year (Dec 25, 2016) Spells were introduced in SF 2012 and removed in 2014, after SF 2013.
Edit: I think adding spells in the game would give the new players something else to love about the game. It will be just another reason why haloween is everyone's favorite time of year in tf2.
It's sweet
