First off, the setting of TF2 (in the 1970's) would give it a very unique style that hasn't been done in film or even in games (aside from TF2 itself, that is). But that's just the style part. Now let's move on to substance.
Second, the characters of TF2 are very unique. I don't think there's another IP (either in film or games) that has characters quite like TF2 has. That would be a refreshing breath of air for auidences.
And third, the part that Pixar says is king, the story. Combine the action and humor that TF2 is known for and mix in some good, relatable morals and social commentary (like in Terminator 2), that would make it a real killer. Most Disney movies aren't known for having storylines and mroals that the audience can see themselves in, which Pixar usually does.
Put all those together, and you've got a very unique and substantial film that combines the best of Pixar and Valve. The best of action, storytelling, humor, and even a little drama.
Now, that said, it would be confusing to those who are not familiar with the game, but I think there's a way to make it easy for those unfamiliar to learn, while not being expositional for those who are familiar.
I feel like it's a bit too late to make movie about this game.
Now, unlike that, I think the game should stay popular and relevant after it comes out.
Granted, not a finished script, but I have some ideas that, if fleshed out, could be a real killer.
I'm a no movie director.
But this can be interesting to read.
