Team Fortress 2
How would an Open World TF2 map work?
Here is one way to answer this question, take one of the maps in which much of the is environment is blocked off by invisible walls. You were to take said map, get rid of the invisible walls and the surfaces blocked by said invisible walls can be explored rather than players fall through the floor to their clumsy, pailful deaths.

Got any other ways to answer this question, let me know?

Either you fall out of the map and die or you come across a literal void, get bored, and come back..

Or just keep the maps small like they were made to be

But what if you were to make a completely new map, that was open world?

I wouldn't. And even if I did, nobody would play it

Would it be overshadowed by smaller, or more popular maps?
The only thing that'll be open is a hole in the side of your computer after the CPU explodes.

Maps are small to keep the focus on the objectuve. TF2 isn't an exploration game.

The reason the maps aren't open world is because 7 out of the nine classes are slow enough that nobody would play them to get to the battlefield. So it would be a bunch of scouts fighting with the occasional medic because he's the second fastest class

So, Open World TF2 is a bad idea?

The point of maps is to have continuous player interaction, big maps like Swiftwater struggle in that aspect by having lots of dead zones and redundant areas where people hardly venture.

The exploration aspect doesn't work in a multiplayer game like TF2 where the whole point is to fight other players. Big maps slow down player interaction making for a more boring game.
If Valve decided to make TF2 Open World, wold that be the worst decision they could make?

Should Team Fortress 3 be Open World?

TF2 does not work as an open-world game, and Valve has clear intentions of not making anymore games, so you're going to have to just look into other developers at this point.
