Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2

What is TF2's art style?
So most of us have seen the death of an artstyle thing by funke. What defines the artstyle? What makes something fit and something not fit? I don't understand how something like the dangeresque doesn't fit and yet the shogun bullcrap does.

Well not all hats are bad. Alot, mostly older ones, were subtle. A good hat

- Fits the character/class it's for
- Makes sense within the time period of TF2 (late 60's early 70's)
- Fits the TF2 aesthetic, a balance between realistic and cartoony
- Makes sense within the culture of TF2.

Take the Towering Pillar of Hats. Its a great hat. On any class it can look good. In the TF2 look it does not stick out like a sore thumb it fits in, and the best part is that the hat itself is a jab at TF2 culture.

The hat's premise makes fun of the stereotype that all TF2 players care about is hats. It basically says "Hey why settle for 1 hat when you can wear 3 hats at once, more hats = more fun." If you look at it that way then the Towering Pillar of Hats contains a pretty clever injoke. As if the Valve was predicting the over the top hats the future would hold.
Yeah.

Also I just noticed what unusual trading has done to me. I once had a BP worth over 16 keys. Now it's just over 9. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate unusuals and the way trading works with them.
I have spent £300 on trading and £100 on games
And j have no idea where the £300 went besides into my 2 unusuals which are £120 total
Now i give up on trading and im saving up £330 on a better bike

It's not the artstyle the problem, tecnically speaking the "artstyle" is how something in the game is ment to be, in this case, cartoony.
The problem is that some items don't fit the CONTEXT of the game, in this case mid-60s USA, or are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous, like the overly-quoted Banana Bonnet.
Mid-60s. WHY THERE ARE EARPODS? THEY DON'T ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FIT! SHUTTER SHADES FOR THE DEMO? OH, ♥♥♥♥ MY ASS.

Honestly, I hate unusuals because of what they did to me in trading. I've owned items that are 2 keys more then my entire BP. That's long gone thanks to unusual trading.
Why hate something for your poor choices
Good point.

TF2's art style was supposed to be fun, quirky, and laughable, but not outright obnoxious. The shogun cosmetics fit the characters well and didn't have features or colors that made it look dumb. The dangeresque isn't too bad. The things that do ruin it are the retarded banana hat and anything of the sort, the numerous flashy and obnoxious unusual effects as well.
also bright paints like pink and lime
