Why can't OP play against their teammates?? Or friends??
So you don't have a single friend who can help you by playing mge?
Op is trying to get better DM for competitive.
The point of doing MGE in the first place is improving your DM capability.
While it is true that you should mostly do it with your primary weapon (and the SB Launcher being the actual primary of Demoman), it makes no sense to train with stickies when you need to use them 9/10 times differently in actual 6v6 games. You learn using and aiming stickybombs the best by training it in actual fights / matches or by practicing bomb deployment on an empty map.
MGE Demoman is mostly utilized to improve your Grenade Launcher DM as it is your primary option to defend yourself against incoming targets. In MGE, you will mostly encounter Soldiers and Scouts rushing at you, so working on your Grenade Launcher aim makes more sense. With this you also learn not to shoot your damn thing dry instantly and rather put your pills to good use.
An exception would be if the opposing Soldier is a di** and camps on a spot while spamming down rockets permanently. Airdet dat sticky right in his face and tell him to f*** off if he continues just camping and spamming in MGE.
Also @Vythern, if Scouts and Soldiers just do chip shots and spam on you, don't fight them - they don't want to improve, they only want to improve their Elo and win.
To add on to this, Demoman (With the exception of Medic) is the worst 1v1 class in 6's. If you are in a real scrim 1v1 and your opponent lets you whittle them down with stickies, then they are just bad players. Good scouts and soldiers will close the distance fast to remove your advantage, which is why the Grenade Launcher is a good 1v1 weapon for self-defense. You are 1v1ing soldiers and scouts, and just like in a real game, stickies won't cut it when fighting TF2's DM expert classes.
If they are spamming you or whittling you down from range in MGE, that isn't what will happen in 6's so it is a poor practice format. If they close the distance like what will happen in a real scrim, then grenade launcher aim would be more applicable.
