[Debate] Is 6s Better Than Highlander?
As a competitive format, in my opinion sixes is much better than highlander. Highlander does cater to a larger crowd and offers some underrated class mains (heavy, pyro, engineer) a chance to shine. However, sixes requires less players, making it more manageable and less chaotic and its meta makes it easy to play as a team with. In highlander call outs are jumbled together and leading a push is quite difficult with so many players, meanwhile in sixes you only have 6 people making callouts (mainly only soldiers and scouts anyway) and some of the members of your team are independent and will not even require a leader.

I admit that my argument is rather weak and I apologise for the quality, this is my first participation in a debate on this topic.

Easier to gather players. That's basically it.

Honestly I think sixes is easier because you can keep track of the enemy team easier.

Sixes is more competitive, highlander is slightly less competitive but more exciting as you have a range of things going on.

it's the opposite imo, in hl you'll always know team composition and since there are more players personal mistakes are way less important.
In 6s you could never know when someone went sniper or spy, and stupid little mistakes give to the other team a significant advantage.
Good points there mate. Thank you for contributing.

I've always considered them to be different flavors of competitive. 6s is basically an entirely different game and arguably led to games like Overwatch, and HL feels closer in spirit to what competitive TF2 should have been in the first place.

I would like to like HL more, but 6s is a better format. HL feels like how competitive TF2 should be played in theory, but when you consider that class vaibility is wildly differentiated and HL is more spammy as a result of more players, and therefore stalls more (not to mention it's essentially a Sniper war at this point in the meta), it makes sense as to why 6s is the preferred format. 6s focuses on optimization in a fast-paced environment since there is no stringent class requirement (i.e. technically, no one is forced to run a Medic, etc.), while HL tries to balance itself around an unbalanced game so that all classes are "equally" represented. Over time, 6s has placed class limits on especially powerful (but generally stally) characters like Medic, Demoman and Heavy (only 1 of each is allowed) so 6s can remain fast, but by design, HL can not limit classes and therefore isn't as open to as much experimentation or optimization. Furthermore, 6s actually allows each class to be represented as their viability dictates rather than for some contrived reason (hence, no one runs full time Pyro, its a waste of a class slot in most scenarios), and along with having only 6 players, each player on a 6s team contributes more to the game than they would be on a HL team (granted, they contribute more in a specific meta).

I don't like 6s because, as you said, classes that aren't played that much don't get to shine.
I think it's boring to play the same classes over and over and only switch to others very rarely
I think it just comes down to preferance.
Different competive modes for different players.
