I feel like Spy's disguise kit is pretty useless.

Aside from keeping sentries from shooting you, unless you're playing with bots or noobs, the disguise is pretty useless.

It doesn't fool players (even though it was original meant to based on the glitch Spy was born from in TFC), but that's mainly because I've noticed players have adapted a more of a "Spy Prevention" than "Spy Checking" playstyle. You see anything that moves? Shoot it. Doesn't matter if your teammate was actually a Spy or not, cause if he's not no harm done, if he is, well you just caught a Spy.

I mean I'll admit I play this way too, but because of this, it makes the disguise kit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless. I've gone out of my way to avoid players when making my way to the back lines and I can't even get there. I look like someone just going back to respawn for a top up and I learned not to run directly at players cause that obviously indicates I'm a spy disguised and coming to get you, but even if I keep my distance, I still get shot when disguised. I can understand if it's the player I am disguised as but most times it's not. It's just random people who see another teammate and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fire because why not.

Thus, as I said, playing against anyone who has at least 30 hours in this game and knows how Spy works, disguises are useless.

At this point I feel being sneaky as Spy is also useless because of this. Running around cloaked Pyros will just catch you off guard, or people will bump into you so why even bother? I'm thinking playing Spy would be better off using the DR as an escape plan, and just going full head on into battle undisguised with like the Ambassador or Diamond Back. Maybe the Big Earner knife for speed.

Of course this is just my personal opinion and observations. How do you guys feel on this matter? Do you think his disguise is kinda useless?

the spy needs chaos to make the disguise work. when there 5 people on the other team trying to defend a point with a heavy+medic combo, your disguise will most likely work because the other team won't shoot their team when they are getting mowed by a heavy.

The ER will be useless as well though, for reasons mentioned above, not to mention you can get stuck with a slow class.

Useless to people that think it'll work. It may work if you are REALLY good at acting, but then again that doesn't stop them from shooting at you.

yeah that's my point even if you act I've noticed most players will shoot regardless. I do it myself.

People have wisened up to Spies these days. The most I can suggest is to change up your tactics.

You'll have to rely more on your cloak than disguise. Never appear in front or in the view of enemy players, as you said they'll probably check anyway.

Always attack from behind or while they're busy attacking or moving.

Never try to move in-between players since the back player would see some suspicious teammate moving right behind his mate at the front.

And yes, you'll probably say "That's just common spy sense dummy, I already know that". But most spies I see almost always go against the rules above and just charge in up front with a disguise thinking they're god. Look back and ask yourself "Why did I die?". You might be surprised.

The Disguise Kit is only as useful as you are. Why else do you think Spy's entire class is based off the enemy's (in)competence?

That being said, the DR makes disguising as a teammate actually useful.

Most of my deaths are me trying to use the disguises, aside from that I play by those rules, its just that I use the DR alot so I can't cloak at will, but if I'm going to be shot anyway it'll cloak me.

I'm really only complaining about the disguise issue, when im not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with them I'm fine.

Don't rely on disguises.

If you use the crutch dead ringer you will probably have problems at getting kills since nowadays no one believes in someone that dont shot or is walking straight to you.

Don't use dead ringer, use invis watch or c&d, it will be way easier to backstab since enemy can't see you.

Also try to stay out of their fov.

hmmm idk fam i mean disguise issue aside I'm pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good with the DR. I dont have problems getting kills when relying on my gun and watch.

Actually I find im worse with the normal invisiwatch and CND just makes it worse cause less cloak.

huh didn't know it dropped my teams body, maybe this will up my game. I just assumed it was the spy ragdoll since being killed usually breaks the disguise.

This is why I stopped playing Spy. These youngsters nowadays got new tricks. Tricks like, shoot at every teammate you see. Not very clever, but effective.

As a possible solution, Valve could enable team collision. Although, that could have possible trolling consequences. Oh well, it's not like everyone doesn't troll anyways, right?

Even with collison people will still shoot teammates, the only way to help spy out is friendly fire, which would break the game.
