Team Fortress 2
Why do so few players take the game seriously?
Anyone else tired of carrying teams to a win? Or just in general tired of teams filled with players who don't seem to care that they're terrible? It seems like no one cares if they win or not these days, and if they do it's only for the split second before they lose that they actually try to prevent the loss.

I like to play in a semi-competitve enviroment, I like being a good player and I like playing against good players. I don't want to deal with all the problems that competitive tf2 brings but I still want a quality match, which is getting hard to find these days.

It seems like if you want a real match of TF2 you have to invite 23 people to an empty server. I barely know 23 people. Let alone having enough friends on steam to actually organize a real match.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it would be great if there was some middle ground between competitve and casual. Some place where you don't have to deal with friendlies or teach the team how to play the game during the match and you don't have to worry about a hacker in a 6v6 ruining your match.

Is there some secret server for "tryhards" that I just haven't stumbled across yet? I feel like tryhard is a very derogatory term for someone who simply strives to be good at what they do, but I guess society has taken to mocking players with any form of dedication.

Can't lose if you leave whenever the game doesn't go your way.

you can always kick friendlies

If you're very degraded by being called a tryhard, you should probably switch to playing Minecraft
I'm afraid the world can't spin the way you like. TF2 is a massive community, we won't just go by your wishes.
You want good players, and consider yourself a good player? Start teaching newbies. They'll be the good players of tomorrow.

Player retention is very low.

If you keep telling them how bad they are and how much they suck, yes. If you help them improve and teach them how to play, they'll stick around more.

I'm a very good proof of that. I was taught how to play, and stayed for nearly 3 years now.

Yes a very serious game where you beat people death with a frying pan.

I can teach them all I want, but the majority of them won't read it. They play their own little game going for a positive KD.

That doesn't make you proof, that makes you an exception.

Oh wow, so everyone who sticks around for years is an exception then? Good to know.

And I've tried to give people some advice, and they usually take it and try it. In fact, one of my teams trained a newbie Spy we had, and the guy ended up doing much better than when he started.

It's also the way you say things. If you tell them to do things your way like they were orders, of course they won't follow you.

Yes. If the majority choose not to, the remainers are the exception.

Well done, you've made an anecdote.

Surprisingly enough, if they don't want to listen they won't listen. You can phrase it however you want, some people can't be swayed.

Oh, SPUF comebacks, I almost forgot about them. I actually miss those forums, but I still haven't received the message of my account being accepted from the new forum.

Also, I think we can safely say, for both of us, that each one plays the game the way they want. I mean, I'm not saint, and I also rage if my team is performing poorly, but that doesn't mean I can't have a little patience with those I know are just starting, instead of being like this guy who's all "Uuuuh, I can't plaeeeeyyy becus bad peeeple!!".

I can agree with you there.
Nice to see you're still paying attention to spuf though...

Before I forget, their email system is borked. Just try logging in and seeing if it works.
