ISP banned?

Not sure why but I can no longer play vrchat, and attempting to visit the website gives a 1005 error, stating "The owner of this website (vrchat.com) has banned the autonomous system number (ASN) your IP address is in (***) from accessing this website."

Please fix this issue

To follow up on this, no this is not a typo, vrchat did ban my entire ISP, not IP, ISP, for several days before removing the ban, for no fault of my own. The ban is no longer in place for me, but if you're here, please make sure this issue applies to you, this is not just a generic "I was banned" thread.

I finally got a response back from vrchat:

Unfortunately, we've had to block the ASN associated with your ISP because of a high amount of abuse originating from it. This does not mean there is a moderation on your account and it is likely that this block will be temporary, but we cannot estimate when it will be unblocked and are unable to share more information at this time.

Not sure in what world banning an entire ISP is an acceptable response to anything but it appears that that's what VRChat has done

I don't even use a proxy/vpn, vrchat really has just decided to ban my entire ISP because some folks were apparently doing "something" wrong

This is the equivalent of the Teacher punishing the entire class because of one kid's behavior, and in this case, we can't even tell what that kid was doing.

My temporary block is up and I can get on the website and get into the game finally after receiving the same email this morning.

Blanket bans cancel Twitch streams and stops streamers from getting paid.

I have the exact same problem when using my NordVPN.... Autobans need to get their AI out of their asses and realize that VPNs mean a massive number of people can all look like they are all coming from one IP or a small pool of IPs.

I have this issue on both default network, and a high rated paid vpn. Somehow vrchat is seeing through my vpn. I haven't been able to play with friends in months.

They can't "see through" your VPN... they are banning / blocking the VPNs themselves.

Which is the definition of seeing through a vpn. They can tell that one is being used, when they shouldn't be able to, thus one of the only two reasons to use a vpn. But even with vpn off, I am still unable to connect and play. My actual isp was banned, through a vpn.

No... more like your ISP was banned first... you tried to use a VPN ( like many others who were also ISP banned did ) which is why now VPNs are ~also~ banned now as well.

This is exactly why VPNs are banned / blocked... people were using VPNs to bypass the original ISP block / ban... there is no "see though" going on, this is what happens when people misuse VPNs to evade a ISP ban, cause and effect, fist the ISP, next the VPN.

VRChat doesn't do IP bans (not sure what you mean by ISP ban, I assume you meant IP ban)

VPN are not blocked either, specific servers are blocked which a lot of paid VPNs use. you could still find ones that work as long as they don't use the blocked servers

"You do not have the slightest idea what you are talking about. Hardware id bans, steam unique id bans, email provider whitelist, hell even payment method confirmation or phone number verifications. All effective methods of banning the users you speak of, as they are implemented by other games. IP bans are the most trivial, most easy to overcome bans if your intention is being a nuisance and you are okay at it. There will always be a vpn or vps provider trolls can find and use.
