I'm stuck in the AFK mode please help

I open the game with my headset on or even off and i am stuck in the games afk mode. I cannot move but I can still use VrChat's menu how can I fix this? My headset is a Valve Index and steam VR is able to recognize when I have it on or off.

try to hold down your menu button to have the circle menu. go into options and there you can change the AFK Mode. Don't know if it works everytime but for me at least worked it one time before.

I have likely been having this same issue fairly often, where VR Chat is stuck in AFK mode and only restarting the PC can fix it. I finally figured out that going into the SteamVR menu to Devices > Restart Headset is able to resolve the issue without having to restart my PC (restarting Steam in its entirety does not help).

Turning off AFK detection does let you move around in VR Chat while this issue persists, but if you hold your head too still, the headset will go black in a few seconds. So, I wouldn't call it a usable workaround.

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH, i hadd this exact issue and couldnt lay down in vr anymore cause i kept going black screen but after i did the steps you said to restart the headset it stopped putting me in afk mode! thank you so much youre a life saver! <3 <3 <3

Hey, I know it's a bit old, but just in case someone wants to know another way to fix this. I'm with the Cosmos and I got this problem as well, but I randomly found another potential solution. Put your headset in a position where it will automatically get on stand bye, then put it back. This fixes my problem.
