Verify the game file integrety,
uninstall and install back again (the game is like 1.1Go)

I have found a fix. If you have an amd card, go to radeon settings and disable Radeon image sharpening for vrchat. it worked for me.

My game too crashes on launch every time since the 2020-04-01 update. Just see the Unity red exclamation sign popup titled "VRChat Unity 2018.4.20f1_008688490035", which I presume is the crash reporter. Submitted crash dump via ticket. Tried deleting all game files and reinstalling, doesn't help. Running on SteamVR for Linux beta 1.11.4 on Ubuntu 19.10 and AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics.

Interestingly the crash only happens if my controllers are powered on. If the controllers are powered off or if using the non-vr desktop version, the game launches fine (obviously can't click anything like the login screen without the controller in vr version). The moment I power on the controller, VRChat crashes.

Try to check if you can update the firmware of your controllers... Worth a try.

There did happen to be a controller firmware update available, but it's the same after the update, and same with SteamVR 1.11.5. Hoping the submitted crash dump will help.

Nevermind, they emailed me back to say Linux is not supported. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Worked yesterday! It does seem to me to be a problem with the new Unity version.

Thank you so much!

I'm having the exact same problem. Radeon image sharpening was already disabled for VRChat. I tried everything mentioned in this thread. Any other idea?

I put the game to run on Admin mode, but I don't know if that has had any effect in the situation.

Also make sure that Radeon Settings is updated

I indeed forgot to update Radeon Settings, but the problem remains unsolved even after updating it and launching the game on admin mode.

Bump. I have an update for this problem, for me at least.

It occurred while I was using OpenComposite (so when I wasn't launching the game with SteamVR). Now that I deactivated it, I can launch the game with SteamVR, but the reason I downloaded OpenComposite in the first place was because SteamVR makes everything lag, and it didn't miss out, I get more and more stutters as I play and ultimately completely freeze after less than an hour.

TLDR; How do I launch the game via OpenComposite without crashing? The problem sure doesn't come from OpenComposite itself as I can launch other Steam games with it.

Update: solved problem for me by updating to latest Proton 5.0-6 in Steam Play settings. Steam doesn't bump up the Proton version automatically and it was stuck on an older one.

Interestingly, according to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3078 which has the same crash error I had, the issue was the rendering of custom controller graphics, which explains why it was only crashing for me when controller was connected.

So I'm having the same problem, only thing is I've tried all of these to no avail, I at first thought it might be the EAC, because when I sent the support ticket to the VRCHAT SUPPORT they told me it was a problem with the EAC, however I tried everything they suggested to do, including putting myself on windows 11, yet I keep crashing.

I'll load into the game, but when I try to go to my home world I'll get the Unity crash handler. I've uninstalled both vrchat, steam, and even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of EAC. Nothing I do works, no updates work, I've tried updating both my navida graphics drivers, and my regular drivers, and I set my EAC in services to manual, I'm lost on what to do and I sent my steam ticket in a week ago, thinking it might be a problem with my latest version of steam, cause I've been experiencing similar things with other games involving EAC, so if any of you could suggest some ideas that would be amazing, I'm entirely lost on what to do, and steam support hasnt gotten back to me yet.
