How do you reset your avatar if you only have a steam account?

I'm assuming my avatar was changed, for some reason(I don't even know why), to an avatar that crashes the game immediately(I noticed my profile picture was something else during the 2 seconds that I could play the game, so it must be a new avatar). The game runs for about 2 seconds until it crashes, everything turns white, some things black, and I can't do anything. It takes about 1-5 minutes for me to start task manager and end the VRChat process, because it freezes my computer.

I don't know my password for this VRChat account because it was made through Steam. Is there a way to access it online without merging with a VRChat account? Or just reset the avatar even?

Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention, during the 2 seconds that I could play, I spammed Ctrl + \ and nothing happened, so that didn't work.

You can try adding this to your vrchat launch options, it will take you to a world someone made that will change your avatar to one of the default avatars.

vrchat:/launch?ref=vrchat.com&id=wrld_303d6924-1bd5-40ea-865b-da55b1ad7370

Steam library > right click vrchat > properties > launch options

If you wondering what I did, I copied and pasted your line into VRChat's launch options

Hiiii i had the same problem as you but found a solution.

Maybe by the time this message got to you you already found a solution but this might work too .

One day , i decided to try an avatar that was so glitchy that it made my WHOLE game crash and couldn’t open it for a while. Then i figured out that if you hold Shift and \ at the opening loading screen it reset your character to the default one .


My game stopped crashing after that .

nope, thats an old format launch link, after vrc launches just hoild \ the entire time for a default avatar, and for vr users https://help.vrchat.com/hc/en-us/articles/360060847634-Unable-to-switch-out-of-an-avatar

It doesn't work for me, probably because my keyboard doesn't have an American layout.

Even funnier is that on their help side, they give you a second solution.

If the above option doesn't work or you're unable to load into a world to reset your avatar for any reason, hold down both the Quick Menu buttons for the duration of loading a world and your avatar will be reset upon load-in.

"hold down both the Quick Menu buttons"?! are there more than one wich is R? what does this mean?

I had a crash avatar that, just like its name implies, caused my game to crash. The problem was that VRChat had already set this avatar as my default, so I was stuck with it. That meant every time I started the game, it would immediately crash again.

I tried googling and found many others with the same issue, but almost no solutions.
