How do I get rid of fan noise?

I'm a laptop user who keeps getting muted on VRChat because my mic keeps picking up my laptop's fan noise. I can either use my bose headphones or my rode mic, but the problem remains. How do you reduce annoying fan sounds with your mic setup?

Windows has some built in features that might help with this. If you navigate to your microphone properties in the sound control panel, there will be a tab labeled Enhancements that contains a few check boxes.Turn on Noise Suppression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation and then test your mic in the listen tab to see if that cuts down on the background noise.

Download and install Noisegator.
Download and install VB-cable. reboot your computer.
Set your microphone output to noisegator.
Set noisegator output to VB-cable.
Set VB-cable as your default microphone in the audio control panel and in VR-chat settings.
Dont forget to set VB-cable output (in recording devices) so you listen to it with your headset.
Use noisegator to filter your microphone output.

Its not free but you can get the noise cancelling software discord uses as its own program. Its called Krisp. I think you can use it for up to 4 hours a week for free.
