First you'll need to import it into Blender, meaning you either need CATS or the MMD_Tools plugins... preferably both

Then you need to translate the bones/meshes/etc to english to work with

Then you need to decimate it to be under 20k polygons without looking like crap

Then you need to setup visemes and eye-tracking

Then you need to port over the textures through alpha...masking i think? too lazy to double-check

Then you port that all over to unity and set it up as a humanoid, setup the shaders, and make sure everything checks out. Add on some physics, special animations, particles, sound effects, etc, whatever you want, make sure you have the VRCSDK installed too, then you need to get a VRChat account since you cant upload to Steam.

THEN, and ONLY then, can you upload to their servers and HOPE that you didnt mess anything up, ending up with a red avatar ghost that will never load.

Have fun! :D

ahh im just messing with ya (By making it sound more difficult then it is at least, you really do have to do all that) xD Here, check out this video; its long but it goes over the BASICS of getting an avatar operational. It wont come out pretty, it wont have awesome animations or sound effects of particle effects or epic trippy shaders, BUT its a great place to start off with:

i just hope you have at least a tiny bit of game development experience, it helps out a lot :)

Hey!! i Read this and was like "Well ♥♥♥♥ this is going to be hard." But then i used my big brain, :monsterbold: did some research. All jokes aside you can convert the PMX file to a FBX file and the file imports into unity just fine! Here's the converter i used. https://anyconv.com/pmx-converter/

VRC has come a long way since 2018.. im almost shocked its been out that long looking back at this. But yea they've also heavily increased the polygon limit (70,000 last i remember) so its much easier to get nice looking models and such!

What went wrong? If that didn't work i suggest importing it into blender and then exporting it as your favored file type. better quality that way
