changing instance from private to public is a bad idea and will never happen, think through the issues with that.
Instant fix for going from public to private, bring up a pop up telling them the host is switching, give a timer of like 30 seconds and let them say yes or no, saying no will return you to your home or make you join the next open lobby, saying yes allows you to stay. The host then can kick anyone before or after switching if anyone they don't want remains.
The alternative is that you get verified and try to vote kick people if you're the host, but if your group is a minority, and you can only vote kick one person at a time effectively, it's still an ineffective system against invading groups against a small group with the host. Other than that, they could just make a private server if they're a group, but what about solo hosts, if they need to move somewhere and made new friends, they need to friend and invite those people, or else they'd need to make a portal others could follow through, that whole process is tedious and takes time.
A lot of kids are on standalone quest so if you can find a PC only gameworld that might solve a lot of issues.
Selectively it would be nice if we could CHOOSE to host a PC only session or Quest only session etc.
Giving an individual a choice to block others is preferable to the amount of trolling power a mod would have in public lobbies.
So... yes. Block 5 people. Your friends can do the same. It's not a big deal.
You and your friends can also just change instances.
Alternatively, report people for harassment. I have seen people get yeeted by moderation in real time. It's delicious.
Here's an example. You're with a group of friends at another friend's home, but the owner of the home isn't there so you're hanging out with your friends with their permission. A group of people come in who disrupt the interaction and the only way to remove that group is to have your group vote and kick them by force, or you go to another friend's home. You can also call the police, but as you know they take time to come in and help (reporting/moderation) so again, if only that one trusted friend that was hosting the gathering could just kick people in an instant, or even ban them from that one single instance. People kicked or banned can go to others, or make their own instance, just as you and others suggest everyone do if there's any issues.
The sad thing is that there was a time where private worlds didn't outnumber public worlds, but with the flood of kids, I can see why that seems to be the case now. With less moderation power for hosts to kick kids, and for those who don't have groups to make private worlds with, it's not exactly a fair situation. I am really puzzled by why you and others think having the ability to kick and ban is trolling? If they're the host and you're kicked, go make another instance and don't cry, that's why the vast majority of social online games have kick functions if you make lobbies.
Just make a private world if you are really having that much trouble getting along with everyone.
Make your own, kick trolls. Trolls already dominate most public worlds. Kicking me won't make me upset, messing with my public lobby and not being able to vote kick them will.
Giving someone like you the ability to control publics is exactly what I am arguing against.
Not really. You can always block trolls. Blocking doesn't ruin the world or make all worlds in general potentially unplayable. Just block and move on.
Here's the thing, it's not *your* public lobby. It belongs to the public. It's right in the name "public lobby."
Make a friends+ instance if you want that power. That gives everyone involved the chance to know that you are the one holding the controls.
Exactly my observation as well.
