False. The majority of instances won't be adults-only ones. It will mostly be places like nightclubs that already have unofficial age checks with bouncers at the entrances.
Besides, solving that issue isn't the point of this update. It is purely to keep kids from adult content. That's why worlds (and hopefully also avatars) will be age-gated later on.
Just like offline: anyone can walk around town, but the nightclubs and bars require ID.
.
even funnier is the bs of " well, it isnt meant for keeping creeps away from kids, its meant to keep kids out of adult spaces"... how do you think most of the kids gain access to those worlds/avis? usually people invite them or show them. the adults who dont want kids to be around them in their worlds, or dont want kids to see their avis dont hang around kids to begin with, meaning that those people wont be effected either way by the age verification, and because its optional, they most likley wont do it. at the start, yes, it COULD do what you think its going to do, but its not going to take long for ♥♥♥♥ to go back to the way it was before... so now, what do you do then?
.
1. we could limit those who dont want to participate in the age verification bs to specific avis/worlds?well, you cant do that because then you will have kids faking their age more, which will make it worse... so that option is out.
2. we could make the game a mature rating, but that will then cause the shareholders to flip out as well as make the devs lose more players because now the game would basically be vr omegle. theyve already ostracized most of the normal players from the game with the excessive monetization, eac, etc. once they ostracize the children, theyll be stuck with the degens who still play the game because they refuse to touch grass... so that wont work.
3. revert some of the extreme changes from the past few years, and let the community be able to police others more effectively again. this will cause players who felt betrayed by vrc to come back, as well as be more inviting to newer players... but we cant do that because then their shareholders will completely lose their ♥♥♥♥.
.
basically, the optional age verification is a very short term solution to a problem they created. its a band aid for a severed leg
Too bad. Prove your age, or stick to 13-rated content.
It'll keep kids out of PUBLISHED adult spaces. Inviting to unpublished worlds MAY remain possible, but the world has to belong to the person that uploaded it.
For avatars, you simply just report any that are not properly tagged.
The adults who want to avoid kids will age-verify for adults-only instances. The obvious change will be that they will be able to create and join guaranteed child-free spaces.
See above point.
No you just proved the point
It's only going to help those who want to avoid kids, it's not helping kids, nor is it preventing those who shouldn't be around kids to be around kids
And outside of bars, nightclubs, stores... what "protection" is there?
If you get caught doing stuff with minors that you shouldn't, then you get arrested.
The VRChat equivalent is an account ban, and possibly legal action.
Explain how they are "protected" "now" when nothing will change
The creeps will still be there unfortunately, the kids will still be there
The only ones not there are a few being creeps with other creeps
Seriously, people don't understand none of it works except giving VRChat owners a pass. Nobody is saying something shouldn't be done, but it should be done in a way that actually works and doesn't doxx the people wanting to do it.
People you are not using your common sense...
How is a kid more protected with less adults in open non 18+ instances.
Sounds to me it's getting easier for those predators/creeps not having adults arround to worry about.
Pretty much... that's a worse case scenario, they don't even understand it's not actually doing anything but making a "safe space" for creeps to be with other creeps
But yes
10 people in lobby
1 kid
1 creep
5 18+ verified users
3 18+ non-verified users
5 18+ verified users make a new instance for themselves and leave, that only leaves 3 18+ non-verified users to watch that the kid isn't bothered by the creep
Or even worse
5 18+ verified users make a new instance for themselves and leave, then the 3 18+ non-verified users leave because they don't want to be around kids either
And the kid is left with the creep alone
How a 18+ instance helps the kid or limits the actions of the creep?... none, zero, nada
BUT it does help the 5 18+ verified users who want to be creeps but don't want to be caught finding out that some non-verified user they're creeping on isn't 18+
They are only out for their own protection
They are only out for themselves
They dont' care about kids
Exactly... all this is going to do is scare off us good people who don't want to be around creeps and kids. This place will be creeps, kids, and people who pay to doxx themselves
Age verification and age-gating content isn't nothing.
Kids will no longer be able to enter ERP worlds and other adult locations.
They will be PROTECTED from entering such places. It will be a very good CHANGE.
This argument is ridiculous. Most adults-only instances will be made for adults-only worlds.
There's minimal demand for adult-instances of kid-friendly worlds other than a handful of social hubs. Good luck finding an active adults-only instance for Uno or go-karting.
I'd love to hear your suggestions since you've got so much common sense
I don't know about you, but even Youtube requires ID verification if you want to access 18+ rated videos on their platform. It's not like ID verification is a rare thing or anything like that, both IRL and Online. The verification process there is pretty much on-par with what VRChat is introducing.
Over here anything that even remotely could resemble a income also needs ID checkups for legal reasons. Some platforms like Ebay even go a bit further and require you to give tax information at a certain point.
If you don't like the age verification, don't verify. Simple as that. If you don't like ID checkups at a nightclub, don't go to that nightclub. It's normal for a adult to want to be social with other adults. (imagine a 30 year old IRL who likes to primarily hang out with kids under 18, that's extremely creepy at the absolute best)
I'm all for age verification personally.
