Avatar Compatibility:
Ensure that the avatars you’ve purchased are compatible with the version of VRChat you’re using. Some avatars may be designed for specific platforms (like PC or Quest) and won’t work properly if used on an incompatible system.
If you’re trying to upload a Quest avatar, make sure you’ve hidden the PC version of the avatar in your scene before attempting to upload the Quest version.
Shader Issues:
Sometimes, shaders can cause avatars to appear grayed out. If you’re unable to edit shaders, try the following:
Click on the model in Unity’s file browser.
In the inspector, go to the Materials section and change “Use embedded materials” to “Use external materials” (or a similar option).
Extract materials from the asset in your project by right-clicking on them and selecting “Extract materials.”
Create new materials and add the texture files to them, then apply these materials to your avatar.
Safe Mode and Avatar Blocking:
Check if you’ve accidentally activated Safe Mode. To disable it, open your Quick Menu and click on “Change Shield Level.” Select a safety level like “Normal” to see avatars again.
Make sure you haven’t blocked the avatar. Open your Quick Menu, select the user with the avatar you want to see, and click the ‘Eye’ icon under Avatar Display.
Performance Blocks:
Avatars can be performance-blocked due to their complexity. If an avatar exceeds the permitted Minimum Avatar Performance Rank, it may appear grayed out. Consider optimizing your avatars for better performance.
