VRC crashed after 5 min of play

I have 1k+ hours into VRC but recently for seemingly no reason after I am in VRC VR mode for about 5 min my whole machine locks up and I have to hard restart. My rig is as follows:
Win 10
16BG DDR3
i7 4790k 4.0 GHz
GTX 980

This only started happening recently like a week or two ago. Troubleshooting we tried a scndks, we tried WMD (windows memory diagnostic), we did a drive scan to make sure my SSD isnt dying, we repaired windows install, updated video drivers for my GPU, even went as far as cleaned the whole rig and re applied new thermal paste (its been a few years). I can play other VR games, tested Pistol Whip and played for 6 min with no issues, played Roblox in VR no issue, I play non VR games with no issue for hours. The issue only seems to be in VRC, my whole rig locks up and forced a hard reboot.

Event Viewer dosent say anything at all, im at a complete loss at what could fix this, VRC is a solid 75% of my social life and would very much like to fix this issue. My dad works in IT and has been trying several things none of which was worked at all. We tried uninstalling VRC and removing all appdata files along with all temp files for VRC and a fresh clean install, we removed a program I use called Voicemod because we heard it could cause similar issues.

Anyone here have any idea, My dad has tried a few other things and they didnt work (Dont remember what hes tried) The only thing he can think of now is a full reformat of windows cause hes out of ideas but even he doubts it will fix the issue.

I am using Virtual Desktop from my Quest 2, but the issue doesn't happen with any other game VR or not.

Please help.

UPDATE 1:
We just tested non VR VRC and it did the same thing after about 4.5 min. The problem 100% has to be in VRC.
Update 2: We tried clearing the 3 caches and removed all profile data just in case... still happening. We are at a loss... Please help.

it's not the pc it's something wrong with vrchat or easy anti cheat i have the same problem

i also doubt a windows install will fix it something like this doesn't just happen and it always locks up within 4-5 minutes and just before it does the cpu spikes and something loads on the ssd i suspect easy anti cheat but i can't 100% confirm everything on my pc is updated including bios the only thing i didn't do was reinstall windows 11

I use to have similar crashed PC with the VRC the only game lock up the system the fastest (un-optimize push everything in PC). In my case was the motherboard failing (where every components works, reinstall OS etc.).

I hope you are not as bad as my case. Try stress test the PC (CPU+GPU at the same time) for hours+ to see if it also lock up. Try to check or swap RAM slot as well, micro crack on slot can lead to that (or faulty RAM stick). IF you have second PC with compatible parts, then swap test every part for hours+. It is a bad sign if a tiny push from VRC fail the system like that. Keep an eyes on system temperature too.

yeah but this only happens within 4-5 minutes every time without fail i have plenty of other intensive games that can stress my hardware i have played ghost of tsushima at max settings red dead 2 at max settings this is an entirely unique problem especially when it completely locks up my pc have to hold the power button just to shut down no blue screen just freeze and only for vrchat

i only have two possible culprits vrchat got updated because i haven't played in a while and the most likely suspect easy anti cheat seem like that might have access to lock up the system i personally think it's easy anti cheat it probably got updated and is getting false positives that's my theory at least

Clean your PC. Make sure all slots are clean either using a can of air or a rechargeable air duster to make sure everything is dust free. Re-seat power connectors, too. THAT'S how I got my PC back up and running

i don't think that would happen more then 10 times in a private instance by myself. this isn't one localized instance, it happens every time i launch the game, desktop or pc vr.

Im the father they were talking about. Everythign mentioned here i have done save for the EAC which i might try tomorrow, didnt think about that.

It happens only with VRC, I had them play a few other VR games for 20 min at a time and not a single issue, only happend with VRC between 4:30 and 5 min every time on the nose. dosent matter if its a solo world, or anything. im running out of options. I doubt its maleware as ive ran several scans on the machine. Im at a loss at this point.

not the case, we tested it with a solo world and only Raz in the room and it still happened after 5 min almost exactly.

did anyone else notice something loads on the harddrive just before the crash use task manager to see it i think it's linked to the freeze that's why i think it's easy anti cheat

I Crash on a 4090 - 13900k....
It uses 40% GPU and 40 FPS....

I've been having almost the same issue , except it just cuts my internet connection after being in game for around 5min. never in a room with randoms. just me and a friend usually. Its really annoying cause it didnt used to do this.
