VRC No Longer Working on College Wifi
I shipped out to college late 2022, and at that time, on the internet provided by my school, I could still easily play VRC; however, around the same time in 2023, it completely stopped working. Each time I try to load in, I get a connection error stating "Your connection to VRC timed out. Verify connection and try again." The internet works for everything else; nothing has been affected besides VRC. My roommate has the exact same issue, so it's not just my computer. And when I went home for break, VRC started working again on my home internet.

I'm wondering if the problem is with a new VRC policy itself, or if my school started blocking the game via its internet (for whatever reason). Are there any other college students having this problem? And do I need to get a vpn to play the game again? I'd appreciate any advice.

More than likely the collage but investing in a VPN is always something good to have especially with public networks

I also have this issue- despite being connected to the colleges wifi VRC doesn't fully connect and can't open my homeworld. I'm debating on getting a VPN for my quest but I don't want to go through the trouble if it won't work.

Anyone else here who's gotten a VPN know if it does actually fix this? Not just college specifically but just any sort of wifi that VRC's servers can't mix with. Does a VPN actually work?

I used my phones hotspot and it worked just fine but i would love to use the schools wifi and have it work.

most likely vrchat's servers are a blacklisted ip/url on your network, you might want to try using a vpn

Connection timeout is a common error when you don't have connectivity. If VRChat services went down everyone would get a timeout error.

If you have internet in general, and yet cant connect to VrChat servers, a campus firewall or proxy server is likeley blocking requests to the vrc domain.

A VPN is like a broker, they go on the internet on your behalf, if you trust NORD, you can use that to connect to the Internet for you. From the firewall/proxy persepctive, they just see traffic between you and VPN Provider all encrypted. VPN provider then forwards your message along to the internets.

My friend had this issue, cloudflare fixed it for him (1.1.1.1)

FYI, Most VPNs are blocked from connecting to VRC.

pro tip, most VPNs will sell your data for extra money so research ones that respect your privacy and can't legally be forced to hand over user data.
