Paid Subscriptions: The Downfall Of VRCHAT!

I don't want to go into a whole documentary about why this is so bad. The developers know exactly what they are doing and they know exactly what for: the lining of their own pockets at the determent of a free and open society.

I have played VRChat for like 5 or maybe 6 years now and I was amazed by how I could wear any avatar I wanted. I could also look soooo cool and feel amazing going to any worlds I wanted and do whatever I please. Honestly it felt amazing and I loved the game even though I don't like some of the more perverse or trolly community members.

I have absolutely never felt any "gatekeeping" in VRChat. While I know some avatars can be customized off of VRC and sold for money, I never once had an issue finding a huge amount of amazing avatars. I have ALWAYS been able to get an avatar for free I loved and felt amazing in and expressed me the way I wanted to look and feel.... But NOW I fear most avatars will cost money and the good free ones will change to a cost. Imagine 99 percent of avatars costing money compared to basically almost all are freeb now... Shame.

And for worlds? I have NEVER ever felt like a world has prevented me for accessing any content, but now most worlds might has cosmetics or unlockable things that cost money and you can have paid ranks and paid items in the world. Want to go to the top floor? Now it'll cost you money. Want to open a door? Cost money. I have seen a few worlds that have paid rooms but I think there aren't many but NOW it may become so common. Shame.

I am personally homeless. I live in my car. Because I have a laptop and most places have wifi I have been able to get on VRChat... I do have a job but I don't make much money. I can't afford many cool things, I can't even afford an apartment... I don't want VRChat to become something else I have to struggle and never succeed in... Just another thing where I'll eventually be left out... Having a game that was so free and open was very nice and I feel now I will be losing it.

VRChat is a pretty decent place aside from the trolls and oversexualized content (an issue that is very wide and large but not for this topic).... And I just feel this update is going to get worse and worse in regards to an open and free society in VRChat.

P.S.

I thought VRChat would be on mobile for everyone but now I think VRC Staff will probably just keep it as a VRC+ thing.

VRC+ was never an issue for me and the mobile thing was something where I thought "okay this is fine as long as it eventually comes out for everyone free of cost"...

But now as of this update I forsee and predict that we will see a LOT of monetization and I know I will hate it and I very much forsee it making VRChat SUCK!!!

also i guess just screw you. you gave me hours of great fun and self expression but you want money for your skills, effort, time, and dedication? ha! loser. kinda feels like these are the people who never touch unity, photoshop, blender, substance painter, etc.

excuse me? are you sure you have played this game? that zombie map has paid for colors for the guns. many MANY worlds have VIP rooms only accessible if you pay on patreon. there are freaking ADS in the movie worlds for trackers and commisions and god dang dating apps. what do you mean you have never been prevented from anything. i know you said you have seen a few but if you explore around and open your eyes. its not just a few. most popular worlds have paid for content.

this was more of a rant to get my own feelings out about how people will complain because at the end of the day, no one ever changes their opinions on forums. its just a pissing contest that we all indulge in from time to time. that being said. enjoy your game. things change and that never stops. many of your favorite things will get ruined with time and die. its just life. if this game has given you so many happy memories then just be grateful. it was never suppose to get this big anyway.

Nobody forced the creators to buy content to put it into their game to speed up the process and quality.

And people support them (money or anything else) because of it.

Vr chat does force everything upon a shady EULA and recent changes to earn more money. Thats a big difference.

might as well go elswhere, creators included. Because they kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the platform rn

indeed it is a downfall. it will become another secondlife, where every inch of virtual space will be behind paywall. even poorly made wolrds, even poorly made avatars and even ripped ones (imagine be creator of original model and be reported by rippers for stealing).
Payed conten was before since udon support patreon integration, but now it will be way easier and cancer will spread.
Wait until fanatics and brave knights arrive to protect poor developers and say how wrong is anibody who unappreciate update. * for a note, i making avatars too time to time, but i decline to use than new "features".

dude i got in situation, when friend had a birthday in vr and i wanted to see him to congradulate, i joined to private instance - it was some club worlds but everyone was behind doors you cannot use until you pay Patreon. I felt ... strange that day.
So i only can predict that worlds like that become a regular for vrchat, because implementing will be way easier.

I'm not sure it should be behind a paywall just because we disagree with it... But is absolutely should be private between 18+ adults.

I am against NSFW on a game allowing 13+. There is so much abuse by trolls and sexually suggestive or MORE going on in public. It's not right and in that respect the community is going off in the wrong direction.

Unfortunately you don't know me well.

I have bought and gifted VRC+ before. I'm not against that. We can't see all that edit that someone makes on their profile though I think only they see it really. Not very noticeable. Not something many people will miss in my opinion. I could do with or without VRC+ personally but something mega game changing and societally changing is an issue.

Also I have used unity and made stuff like worlds and edited avatars. I have thousands of hours on VRC...

Ads? I don't mind posted ads in worlds. EVERYONE sees those equally.

As for those hidden rooms behind doors. I'm sure not many people go behind those... But I just see a full room with a cosmetic door. When you have a paywall and make something unnoticed obvious it also makes it a more compelling issue.

Like people buy stuff outside of the VRC platform on third party sites... But adding a money sign and a dollar sign on the VRC game screen also makes it seem like you are poor or not good enough somehow. It definitely incentives spending just by having that icon that you can spend money.

I understand everything will rot and end poorly. Those who came with good intentions and invented the heavens always fell to hell and rotted. Understood.

Now that I think about it I have a theory:

This Monetization MAY HAVE been done for the release of VRChat on mobile.

I haven't done my research but the mobile market does have a lot of people downloading games and the games they download have a lot of microtransactions (and are usually awful games!!!)

If they are releasing a game on mobile to a brand new audience they can indoctrinate that group to this Monetization on day 1.

Why? Because If people on other platforms reject it or if the game dies on another platform maybe mobile will thrive and they will make more money and perhaps spend less money.

So they may get less pushback and an influx of people who are going to believe this is normal both because of it released on day 1 and because that is the TOXIC atmosphere of Mobile Games.

No idea how possible all that is but I just had that in my mind as a conspiracy theory.

people like me already pay 10 bucks a month to vrc+ why the hell should i have to pay more money for stuff, and they aren't even one time purchases either, the ones we already see from worlds like black cat [go figure] are marked as SUBSCRIPTIONS.

as for hidden rooms, we already deal with people trying to force you to join their crappy discords to get codes , this is just gonna make them change it to "give me 20 bucks for absolutely nothing of value"

you shouldn't at this point heck I was about to I really wanted the figure cause it looked like they learned their lesson but it is obvious they didn't.
Oh and it won't be just for hidden rooms it's going to eventually be for full worlds many of witch are going to be clickbait lies to trick people into paying the entry fee only to realize they got scammed
