People have been trying to figure that out for years.
There's no definitive answer that we have gotten.
Some say it lessens social pressure that you can see others in the mirror when talking so you don't have to look em in the eyes.

The others state it's cause people are narcissistic.
Other say they are lazy.
There's no definitive answer.

because last time I tried to talk to someone they asked "who even are you" so now I'm scared and just look in the mirror while moving my hand cause vr is magic to my small monke brain

I feel like it helps with the immersion seeing yourself as the avatar youre using, and also everyone is autistic on this game so they hate eye contact and you dont need to do that when youre talking to people looking at a mirror lol

Thought it was good for mental health but neni:furyface::

Although looking in the mirror may not seem very rewarding, it would cause the brain to release dopamine, the “feel good” hormone. We recognize our own face better than other people's faces, even when the information is provided subliminally.:onikenmedkit:

Passer beaucoup de temps à se regarder dans un miroir n'est pas sans évoquer le mythe de Narcisse. Ainsi, le miroir est souvent perçu comme un objet destiné à flatter notre ego et alimenter notre amour-propre.
Pourtant, l'influence du miroir ne se limite pas à ces effets négatifs. En effet, observer notre propre reflet dans une glace peut aussi améliorer notre humeur et nous inciter à ajuster nos comportements sociaux et nos habitudes de vie.:dzcore::dzcore:

^^ *Spending a lot of time looking in a mirror is reminiscent of the myth of Narcissus. Thus, the mirror is often perceived as an object intended to flatter our ego and feed our self-esteem.
However, the influence of the mirror is not limited to these negative effects. Indeed, observing our own reflection in a mirror can also improve our mood and encourage us to adjust our social behavior and lifestyle.

Most VR headsets have very limited Field of View compared to physical life. You simply can't see as much of yourself or your surroundings in VR. Mirrors increase you field of view and enhance the perception of your own body. Mirrors allow you to read the entirety of body language at a glance. They allow for big spoon/little spoon cuddles and low energy/less confrontational eye contact. And they are a natural gathering place for anyone looking to relax and chat.

Simply put, mirrors enhance sociability and immersion. They are a simple and intuitive cultural icon of VRChat.

Thats not it..

Some say, mirrors have the power to lock some in place, unable to move, but look and talk.
Some say, mirror are but of a plot, of a hostile take over of Vrchat, while others day mirror are alll fake, and are just in the users head.

But me? I know the truth.. Mirrors are pure evil.

I will tell you all of a story, of the Evil Vrchat Mirror.

Once, I decided to look into a mirror in Vrchat. When I locked eyes with my self in the mirror, the other "me" started to move. Ran up to the mirror, and started pounding on it, over and over and over, until it started to crack. My Mirror avatar then smiled, and it walked away.. then came back with a hammer.

It then used the hammer to smash the mirror on it's side. I could still see though my mirror, but i saw 100's of of my avatar, and the world all over. Then, 100s of hands from my avatar reached out of the mirror, trying to grab me. That, is when I left the world.

Vr chat mirrors are evil, and it is not YOU you are looking at, but an evil reflection. And one day, it will try and take your place.

It’s somewhat mesmerizing looking at the avatar you’ve spent hours making while seeing all your friends taking about whatever is on you’re mind

there is also the what ever the electric field we have that lets us see where our body is when say hand his behind the back and stuff with out it we would not beable to walk or live effectivly like would have to watch our hands do stuff when in view but if try to reach behind cant see fully and you mess up. but in this case sense our VR bodies dont have taht input we use the mirrors to judge or gauge where our body is when not activly observing it. like streching and moving hands around you while eyes closed you know how far your hands and stuff are from your face most the time while in VR doing same your probly slapping your self in the face XD
