I am deciding if I should get this or not

First of all I'm a 12 y/o so I dont know if the dev's would be fine with that or if I have to be 13 or higher with no exception's. Second, I am aware there are pedo's and weird people on VRChat and I know how to avoid that but I am concerned about that so I might have to have a parent around while I play it. My main reason for getting it is to get some sort of avatar for my youtube channel. If anyone could help then I would greatly appreciate it.

Let me stop you right there, the ♥♥♥♥ that happens on here is bad enough that I'd honestly say you should stay the ♥♥♥♥ away for your own safety, preferrably until you're 16 at the youngest, if not 18, it really doesn't help that the community absolutely hates children.

You're required to be 13+ with parents permission.

You should ABSOLUTELY have your parents advise and guide you on VRChat (Preferably make an account of their own and play with you at least at first until you know about blocking features and other safety measures).

An adult should teach children and be a role model in their life, unfortunately in VRChat there are many people who do not uphold this perspective...

... You ought to wait until you are 13 and have your parents guide you along in this game.

The people in this game are very toxic and the content they subject you to is very adult. Their is frequent use of strong language and borderline nudity at almost every turn. Many of the players are adults, or near adulthood, and many conversations can degrade into sexual topics and suggestions.

Beyond the game being completely inappropriate for younger people, children are treated very badly on this platform. They receive frequent bullying and are subject to harsh discriminatory attitudes from a playerbase that is generally unhappy to hear a "squeaker" in their game.

So, no. You should not be playing this game at your age. I personally believe that even 13 or 14 is a bit young for the adult themes introduced in this game.
