randomly ip banned

yesterday 5/7/22 i did not play vrchat i only got on for like 5 mins to test a avatar i was uploading it worked so i got off, i get on today 5/8/22 to hang out with some friends and i was ip banned i dont know if it was a mistake or what happened but i cant play vrchat now after me not doing anything to warrant this

do you actually see a "you have been banned, you can read our tos at %link%" message? or, are you getting the "asn blocked" message? if asn, turn off your vpn

Your IP address (or the block of IP addresses that yours is included in) is currently blocked due to a high amount of malicious activity originating from it.

that is what it says on the vrchat website when i try to log on and i do not have a vpn

yeah that means theres a vpn host using your isp OR a group of folks infected by a botnet, sadly vrc has chosen to use a intenet sledge hammer instead of a laser, you have to wait it out, no idea how long that will be.

Odds are what got you banned didn't happen on the 8th. It could have been something that happened last week or last month. And considering how the VRC mod team works, they respond to reports and gather evidence before taking action.

So what ever happened you got reported multiple times by multiple people, the mod team say fit to investigate those reports, found some form of proof, and finally put you into one of their lists for a ban wave.

Why you got banned or what you did I don't know, and frankly don't care. Could be crashing people, could be NSFW, could be using alt account to do various things, or it could be someone else used your IP address for such things. All I know is that someone did something to earn this ban. No one here can help you. You're only chance is to get in contact with the VRC mod team and plea your case.

What's to read?

OP said that he didn't play on the 7th but got banned on the 8th and the reason was his IP was used for malicious reasons. What exactly else was there to read?

For all we know OP can be the victim of foul play. But it's also likely he could be not telling the whole truth. It's far more likely in fact to have a false claim on innocence than a false positive. We just don't know and it's best to not to make a topic like this as the odds are very against OP here.

I for one don't trust posts like these. Work retail or customer service long enough and you kinda go numb from having to deal with so many people trying to pull stuff or making such claims.

For one, OP claimed in that same post he doesn't use a VPN. There is a chance that OP being in New York he could have got caught in someone else's VPN abuse, but I doubt that or there'd be more people than just OP complaining.

Look, you can defend him if you want. But my past experiences working retail taught me not to trust posts like these for good reasons. The odds are just against OP and no good will come out of debating this. Making forums posts never does.

It's best to take an appeal to the devs and deal directly with them.
