YOU have to take care to not trigger animations. Try holding out your pinky at all times. It's that or turning off gestures entirely through the emote menu by holding the menu buttion and looking in those options
edit: You can also bind toggle gestures to a button on your controllers if you haven't
It gets worse. Older avatars bound ALL of their animations to hand gestures. So you could spam just about anything with the Knuckles. Sounds included.
Just gotta learn to deal with it. It's one reason why I rarely use public avatars anymore
And also this is the part where you either find a new avatar that works with what you have and has the toggles necessary for it to function for your system OR you make your own.
A lot of avatars are made for every other VR device as they function near identically controller wise where the index does not.
