Many things can explain the lag :

-Not strong enough PC (low end GPU, CPU, low amount of RAM)
-Bad internet connection (Lan, Wifi, etc)
-You and the ppl around you have really not optimized avatars, are in a not optimized world, there is a lot of ppl, all of those 3.

You gonna need to start by giving us your specs, if you are on PC, if you use VR on a PC/laptop or if you use a standalone (Quest), etc...

Whenever I contact about connection and lag, they always tell me to install VPN to play. So if it's bad internet connection, they'll request you to get VPN. You can get the free one or their recommended paid ones.

This game crashes and lags. Ask the people around you while you're playing. The game is the issue, all these other guys are BSing.

It doesnt matter how good your pc is, the game only uses 1 core and poorly uses the GPU. A $10,000 pc can be brought into the single digits quite easily if a lot is happening. The game is laggy right now, nothing nobody can do.

On a good day I can keep 90fps in an udon world with a couple of people around with everything shown but thats about the best i can do.
I have a Ryzen 9 3900X with liquid cooling
1200 Watt PSU
Asus 570 P motherboard
32gb of 3200mhz DDR4 corsair vengeance ram
Nvidia RTX 2060 Super SC Gaming edition (8 gigs of ddr6 ram)
Running of a Samsung 970 Pro M.2 drive with 7GB/s transfer speed running in PCI-E 4.0

And vrchat will destroy me and get me down to 5fps during some odd times, usually with shaders breaking. That or just get crashed via crashers.

It SERIOUSLY does not matter your rig, it honestly and truely doesnt. If you are in VR mode and not desktop, the game itself eats up most of its engines resources just displaying the 2 scenes for VR and since it only runs on a single core at a time that one core clock speed is the only thing to help you( I have 24 cores FYI and that does NOTHING to help)

They are moving to unity 2019 here soon(ish) and i think that should come with a lot of resource improvements and fix some stuff, hopefully.

It is kinda a bummer that all it takes is 15ish decent looking avatars in one spot to turn the game into a slideshow within a short span of time. Hopefully, the game gets more optimized soon without taking away from the experience.
