In most cases, including mine until recently.. People will wear the track straps or have the trackers tied to their body by one means or another. Some use a shoelace, others use tap, some even stitch the trackers into old clothes. Most though, we just use the straps and tighten them down. I can say at the least getting the track strap + version of them will be better for the simple fact the base station is inside the straps instead of ontop which makes them wobble a lot less.
Strap to the feet, nice and tight. Strap to the waist, tight as a belt and usually directly on the hip or the front corner of it. Some will also use their hip tracker directly behind or in front. Though if you want to be able to sit down or lay down comfortably, hip placement can't be beat. Just know if it's center of your back or front, significantly better tracking position. You won't have the odd moments where your tracking makes your avatar bend inward like you're collapsing into a black hole.
I use to use my straps on some old shoes and pants, then after a few VR sessions of 12+ hours... I literally wear my VR setup with nothing more than a shirt on and my straps as tight as I can make them to avoid them slipping off.
Does this happen gradually over time or instantly with calibration?
If it happens over time, one ore more of your trackers aren't staying in place. You have to wear them more securely by either adjusting your current solution, or by trying something completely different. How do you wear them if I may ask?
If something is off the moment you calibrate, then the avatar might be broken or suboptimal for full body tracking to begin with.
For instance, some super old avatars tilt their hip to the side as soon as I confirm the calibration.
