Oculus Quest 1 vs Index
I currently have a Quest 1, but I am about to order an Index, but would like to know something about the 2 before I order it.

So I know that the Index has a better fov and refresh rate, but the 2 headsets have the same resolution. I also know that the Index has more god rays than the Quest. So what I am wondering is, does the Quest 1 look better in terms of clarity?

Index is better than both quest headsets unless you have a link cable.

I do use the Link cable. I originally bought the Quest with the purpose of linking it. I wanted a cheap headset to see if I liked VR enough to buy something better.

Honestly, as a guy who moved from a Q2 with a link cable to the Index, Index is far superior in terms of quality, functionality and ease of use. plus no BS Facebook requirements.

Index is too expensive and not worth the cost.

I'm sure you have the experience to back that claim up?

I've heard a lot of contradicting things like this. Something I noticed about people with Ultra's belief though, they tend to just echo everything Thrillseeker says. Thrillseeker seems like a nice guy and all, but I don't think he's that smart.

Also, my Index arrives early next week. lol

You say that, but if you go by what Thrillseeker says he still recommends the Index actually.

It still is the best all-round package you can buy at this point

I mostly agree what thrillseeker says about the index.
Yes it's a bit flimsy, and you should be careful how you use it. But that applies to a lot of things.
I just had my cable replaced because the signal was deteriorating in the break-away plug, which is a design flaw, because that part of the cable never moved or has seen stress in my setup. And my Controllers are on their way to Valve for replacement because of stick drift (a problem that every thumbstick controller has). But the thumbstick assembly is made out of plastics, even tho you can get 5 of them made out of aluminium for about 10$ (the next time I get stick drift I'll just solder those in). Which, again is a design flaw.

Keep in mind, I used my index for about 1200h and the controllers for about 2000h which is quite a lot.
But if I hear people say that they had to have their controllers replaced 5-7 times, and are going through 5 cables in a year... It's pretty clear they do stupid stuff and don't take care, like punching the wall while playing beatsaber.

It is still the best overall headset. It doesn't have the best resolution (pimax, g2), it doesn't have the highest FOV (pimax) it's not the sturdiest (vive). But it has a really good resolution, the FOV is great, and pretty much the biggest of the "normal" headsets. The controllers are comfy and really nice to use, the fingertracking is awesome in the games who support it, the tracking is great, the sound is awesome, the microphone array is pretty much the best out there. The headset it self is comfy. the setup is simple, and especially if you want to have FBT, the setup is also simple with the trackers. And the high refresh rate is awesome for certain games like "11 Table Tennis" which actually makes a big difference (90 vs 144Hz).

Even tho it lacks in certain areas, it still is over all the best headset you can get.

PS: it's basically the Škoda Octavia of the headsets ;)

I understand his concerns with the Index. I do know about the shoddy QA on the controllers too. I would have bought the Reverb G2 over the Index (then bought the index controllers) but there are 2 thing more important than resolution in VR: FOV and Refresh rate. It's those 2 specs that made me get the Index.

There is nothing wrong with the QA (unless parts arrive damaged).
The cement that assumption: all other Thumbsticks have the same problem, Quest controllers, Rift S Controllers, WMR Controllers, even the Nintendo Switch.
It's because of abrasion between two soft materials (plastic).
It's a design flaw.
